Sustainability concept is a liberal idea that huge population is addressing in the era when the problems concerning the environment, brought about by different activities of the human are demanding crucial solutions. Choosing a place to carry out housing development project is one factor that should be considered so that it brings out the idea of sustaining the environment. The location of the sustainable community must put into account the issues of maintaining the well-being, either indirectly or directly on the environment in its natural state, (Botkin & Keller, 2011). Nature and human should exist in the in harmony to uphold the dignity of generations to come. The suburban should be avoided when determining the location of the site for construction. The location of the site with the sources of the materials used for construction should be chosen by considering their proximity to lower the transportation expenses. The site should ensure there is no interference of the various natural resources to bring up a sustainable future. No forests should be cleared to create space for construction of the houses. The houses type to be constructed should have the following three components. The houses should be designed to lower the emissions of harmful gases such as the greenhouse gases, (Sustainable Communities Online, 2013).

component is the social sustainability. The houses should be constructed to avoid injuries; as a result, there are safety features that are put in place. There should be security guards and other elements to combat any crime and increase the sense of security to its tenants and other occupants. The needs of the people with various disabilities must be put into consideration to bring comfort and flexibility to the physically challenged and the children of different life stages, people with who have limited mobility and children included. The suppliers with the right ideas of handling and managing waste should be pointed out to improve the sustainability, (Sustainable Communities Online, 2013).

The last but not least element of sustainable houses is the economic sustainability. The approach of public housing should be considered. This is to allow the residents to have their space to do recreational activities. The houses should be designed so as to save on economic resources such as money for the duration of construction activities and over house’s lifetime, (Sustainable Communities Online, 2013). Proper planning will lead to the avoidance of the renovations in the future and the cost associated with the use of water and the energy maintenance. The infrastructure to be constructed in the community should facilitate the fact of sustainability to be clearly shown in the design and placement of the buildings. For residents to appreciate the idea of living sustainably, there should be communal areas such as the halls for indoor sports activities, public showers, and gym for doing physical exercises and aerobics for the ladies and gentlemen who are the residents of the community, (Sustainable Communities Online, 2013).

The use of

the Land

There will be some ground clearing activities that will mark the beginning of the construction and the commencement of the community development project. This will entail removing the top soil and vegetation cover with the site, blasting, excavating, drilling and trenching. The activities will be conducted on the site. Constructing the roads for accessing the area, and some conveyor system if necessary will be done outside the construction site, (Sustainable Communities Online, 2013). All these activities will result in the community having an impact on the wildlife, wetland and the wilderness.

Noise, whose chief source will be from the construction site, will stem from the bulldozers that will be doing the excavation and removal of the top soil. The draglines and the rollers will also be the source of noise. The noise will have various impacts on the wildlife such that it will cause the migration of the animals that live in the forests around the area and hence interfering with the ecological balance around the site, (Sustainable Communities Online, 2013).

Emissions of gases and different chemicals from the machines used on the site may lead to the destruction of the air quality standards and may also cause respiratory diseases to the wildlife and the human beings living around the construction site of the Capstone community project, (Sustainable Communities Online, 2013). This may also cause greater effects on the climate change. Hydrological patterns may change and soil erosion will be seen through the weak top soils that may be weakened by the vibration of the machines used in the building of the houses and infrastructures, (Sustainable Communities Online, 2013). The dust from the construction site may

also cause poor visibility and high prevalence of diseases to the wildlife. The dust may also lower the quality of the surface water of the wetland around the area. The other resources of the ecology that may be affected include the fish and their habitat.

Therefore, the impacts that could result from the construction of the Capstone may include, the death of the animals and the plants, fragmentation and the reduction of the wildlife habitat, invasion of the vegetation, drainage of the acid mine, run-off and erosion, contaminants exposure and the noise, (Sustainable Communities Online, 2013). The idea of ‘eco-friendly’ landscape and gardens should be employed so as to achieve the minimum impact of the construction activity to the environment, (Sustainable Communities Online, 2013). There are several important reasons to bring in the idea of ‘environmental friendly’ landscape technologies when the constructing the houses.

Water conservation is the fundamental concern, particularly in the arid areas. Since the construction of the buildings on the site is to be done in the dry area, the use of the materials which do not require the use of so much water, (Sustainable Communities Online, 2013). The wetland that is found in the environs of the construction should be converted and protected. There be no activities that caused pollution to the wetland, if the water in the wetland must be used in the construction of the houses on the site then the water should be used conservatively. This is because the wetland can be useful to the wildlife and the people living within the vicinity. There is also the recreational and the aesthetic values that wetland will add to the occupants of

the community.

The steps that will be taken for the sustainability of wildlife, wilderness, wetland and land in the local area
The life cycle of the Capstone project will be marked by its continuous impact on the surrounding environment. The impact of the community on the environment may come as a result of the maintenance, repair and renovation of the buildings, (Sustainable Communities Online, 2013). Therefore, management of the great operation of the houses is critical in the reduction of the impacts of the community to the environment. The building should be constructed in the way that allows for the collection and conservation of rainwater. Building essentials such as; the solar heating panels for heating water and solar electric panels should be put in place.

This will reduce the use of the non-renewable sources of energy will may end up releasing greenhouse gases into the environment. Proper ventilation of the houses should also be maintained in the houses. All these activities are meant to reduce air pollution and minimize wastage of water. Constructing the proper drainage for the sewerage system should be maintained and treated before allowing flow into the near wetland. Good management of garbage put in place will allow for reduction of pollution to the environment hence achieving sustainable ecosystem. The construction of the houses should also comply with the regulations or the laws that various requirements needed to build the houses, (Environmental Protection Agency, 2016).

The activities that are carried out on the site may have negative impact on the climate change. To reduce the impacts of change in climate, the following various actions should be taken. The buildings should be constructed in ways that comply

with the act, which is a concern with the compliance of carbon from the local authority and the international community. Therefore, the developer should put into consideration issues of sustainable construction when carrying out the project.
