Through the series of writing exercises we made in this class, we already explored and master persuasion, formal, informal and argumentative essays. We learned that a piece of writing can be influential and powerful that it can alter a person’s opinions, views and perspectives.

We also learned that through writing we can inform and educate, we can render information that may be relevant for public consumption.Through the series of writing exercises, I significantly observed that I totally improved my writing skills. My grammar and syntax as well as the use of appropriate erudite words have improved. I also knew how to level my writing depending on my audience and readers.Aside from the scholarly benefits of this course and improvement in my writing, some of my attitudes and values significantly changed. I learned to be patient, especially in finding credible and reliable sources.

I tend to persevere in coming out with one of the best papers. I always do my best in writing my papers. I make sure that every draft and written output that I will submit is a product of hard work and labor of love. I always make sure to

find ample time in doing my papers to avoid errors. I also value the criticism from my peers and mentors for I know that this will help to further improve my writing style and other skills.One of our writing assignments is to write a rhetorical essay.

I made an essay about YouTube entitled “YouTube: One Way of Our Life”. The essay is more like an article review wrote by Naim explicating on the effects of YouTube. The essay that I made critically analyzed the essay from start to finish.The essay reviewed the strength and weaknesses of Naim’s article and how he utilized various writing essays.

Also, even the audience chose by the writer to effectively render his point in writing the article. In the end, the essay also expresses my personal opinion and views on the article written by Naim. It also states my views in the subject or topic tackled by the other writer.Upon writing this particular essay, it opened my mind on a subject that I never gave importance before. I know about YouTube and its features to share videos between people.

But other than utilizing their service and enjoy sharing and downloading videos from the site, I rarely mind the effects it had on me. I know that this is also the feeling of other people who read my written work that evaluates the article exploring the effects of a popular site on people.Aside from the curiosity that emerged from me, I experienced difficulty in writing my arguments. In writing this article, I read first other articles that pertain on the subject, also the background of the topic. This leads me in researching related literature

on the article, which not only enlightens me on the subject but also increases my knowledge on the subject matter.

In this case, I read the history and background of YouTube and other articles that explore also on the effects of YouTube on people. This helps me in attaining significant body of knowledge that I can utilize in making my arguments. It is hard to make judgments when you know nothing or little about a certain subject.Also, I read carefully the article of Naim to criticize effectively his points, purpose and perspectives in writing that particular article.

I know nothing about the author and the main source of my information is his article based on my critical evaluation on how I perceived his written work. By reading the article, I am able to empathize or stand on his ground and understand the different aspects of his written work. I also put myself in the perspective of the readers and how it affects the cognition of the readers. The criticisms are based on my own perceptions and views analyzing how the article affects its audience.These two skills, researching and reading carefully, are very important which I learned in this particular writing assignment.

In writing, especially if it was published on popular reading materials, there is no room for errors for the breadth of the publication and the whole reading public will be affected by those errors. For example, you stated an unverified piece of information and publish it, many readers will read it and believe that it is true. It is hard to retract what is already published for many readers hold that that piece of information is true.Another

important assignment we were asked to do in this class was to make an annotated bibliography. Making an annotated bibliography is a difficult task at first, especially when you never did one before.

An annotated bibliography is a collection of resource materials for the written work with an annotation or an own explanation of the writer on the sources’ contents and how it was utilized in the written work.Making an annotated bibliography constitutes researching of the sources and evaluating this sources on how useful those sources in the whole written work. It also constitutes knowledge on the different citation style for there is a lot of citation styles used for academic papers and all of them used annotated bibliography. In our class, we utilized the Modern Language Association citation style and it is one of the skills that we should master.I collected research sources on my paper about global warming. The topic is a scientific subject that requires accuracy of information and reliable sources.

At first, I searched on the internet about general topics of global warming. There are a lot of sources that pertains to this subject. I chose websites that are reliable like Greenpeace which is an organization known for its environmental advocacy.It is hard to find valid and reliable sources on the internet as it is one of the dilemmas of the World Wide Web.

I chose websites mostly with extension of .edu,.org and .gov. This is one of the sure ways in assuring the site’s credibility. I also searched on books and journals that are helpful in the topic.

I got a lot of information in these sources for they are more scholarly and well-written.Though

global warming is a current phenomenon and popular these days, it is hard to find current sources, especially since the year just started. Some of the articles also have the same content or information that does not render variety in the written work.At first, I try to congest all the subtopics of global warming as well as my ideas in a single paper. Our mentor then commented that my written work is hard to digest and full of facts and information that no longer agrees with my main idea or thesis statement. Through researching on my sources, I was able to narrow down it on a particular subtopic of global warming which are the causes of global warming.

Using my researched articles, I explore in this area and I was able to come up with a well-written essay.By the end of this activity, I was able to learn that researching relevant sources for a written work is significant in making a good written output. With the sources, you will know the different opinions and perspectives of the different authors and ponder to make one of your own judgments.Global warming is one of the controversial issues today and it significantly gathers attention and concern from various sectors. In this particular writing assignment, I include various research findings published on books, journals and credible websites. I included such information to educate the public and enlighten them about the subject and also to reinforce my point in writing the written work.

One of the problems that I experienced in making this particular written output is looking for a particular subtopic that I will focus on in my written work. One

of my claims and personal belief that I included in the paper is that one of the main causes of global warming is the detrimental human activities that destroy the environment for the pursuit of industrial success. As I mentioned earlier, one of my weakness is my research skills and this kind of written work allows me to further improve my research abilities.However, I do not like writing this kind of paper for it is rigid and research-based.

This kind of paper requires formal writing standards such as scholarly words and tone for it addresses a controversial issue that concerns diverse audience. The facts and information included must be well-researched and verified for it is important that what you put in your paper is the truth. There are many tasks that need to be accomplished in order to finish this kind of paper.Another writing assignment in this class is writing a formal public argument essay.

In this essay, I continue to write about global warming but this time in the aspect of what people can do to resolve this growing and detrimental environmental dilemma. Since the topic is still a controversial issue. The paper is addressed to the general public for

it concerns every one of us and we all can feel the effects of global warming. I feel that everyone should be able to understand my written work as it is a global issue.

The experience is enjoyable and rewarding, I try to persuade that people can do little things in order to prevent global warming and that we should all take a stand in preventing this dilemma. In this particular writing assignment, I was able to write freely of my own opinions reinforced still with qualified resource materials. I tend to feel superior in the subject I was dealing with since I try to persuade people to heed my tips and agree on my opinions. I was also able to use two of the most important writing techniques, which are the ethos and pathos in order to achieve my goals and objectives in writing this article.I was able to establish my ethos by citing different information from credible sources that support my claims. I appeal to the mind through this and make try to persuade the audience by using verified facts and information.

I also appeal to the emotion by stating that the current state of global warming is worse and in no time we will slowly feel the effects of global warming. I also try to send the message that immediate action is needed in alleviating the effects of global warming.One of the recent projects in this class is transforming the essay in the form of presentation. I presented my global warming essay and created a presentation about it.

At first, I will address a scientific and educated community so I adapt my words and tone

in order to be more erudite and understandable to their level.I only did minor changes in my main essay in my presentation. I still established my ethos by maintaining the resource materials that are the sources of information in my essay. My relatives, peers and classmates regarded my presentation as relevant, informative and useful for I deal with the subject that is current and of concern of all individuals.
