Should animal testing be legal or illegal? Animal testing in scientific labs can hurt the poor innocent creatures. I think that testing on animals should be illegal. I’m going to be telling you the different reasons why I prefer animal testing is illegal. “Animal testing is wrong and it is cruelty to animals.

Each year about five million dogs, cats, rabbits, monkeys, and other animals die in lethal dose tests performed in many states of the United States” (mega essays). Every year, an animal dies in an experiment in the United States. Can you imagine how many of these poor creatures die every day all around the world?Scientists and researchers cruelly experiment on the innocent lives of non-human animals. Animal experimentation is not only cruel, horrific, and heartbreaking it is also useless. “Ninety-four percent of animal t

esting is done to determine the safety of cosmetics and household products. That only leaves six percent for medical research.

The saving of one life cannot be justified by the killing of another” (Stop Animal testing). During the lethal dose tests the experimental are forced into the animal’s throats, or pumped into their stomachs by a tube. This causes death by stomach rupture or from chemical dosage. Another way that animals are experimented is by injecting under their skin, often applied to the eyes, and inhaled through a gas mask.

Animals are living, breathing creatures, similar to us that deserve to be treated with respect, and loyalty. Hundreds of animals die daily of scientific research. People seem to find this acceptable but if the same number of humans were to die at the same time, wouldn’t it be considered tragic

Animal experiments can be beneficial and help to find cures for some diseases. However, the number of successes is very small. It could be due to differences between species or due to illnesses that have been placed in the animals intentionally. Humans don’t catch diseases in that way.

Therefore, it would not be more logical to use alternatives such as laboratory tests or computer devices. This will do the job without any slaughter of innocent animals and it will stop inaccuracies caused by differences between species. Imagine if this were happening to your own pet, to your dog or cat. Are the scientific benefits still the top priority? What would happen if I were to deliberately give another human a fatal disease, if I were to electrocute, shoot or poison them? This would be considered immorally wrong and I would be labeled as a psycho, and I would most certainly be in jail for it. ” (Teasdale, Kate. Fazed) It’s funny that scientists can do a daily basis and no one could think twice about the animals.

Scientist is not labeled this way at all. If they do manage to get lucky and create something beneficial from the torture, then they are seen as heroes. It could be dangerous, and we don’t know what the side effects on testing could be to the animals, its species, or to man kind. Like all farm animals, cattle suffer from many diseases because of how they’re raised and fed with little known effects on the people who eat them and their products. “Salmonella, E.

coli, avian influenza, SARS, campylobacter and other evidence of farmed-animal-to-human disease transmission, government and industry reassure

us that virtually no farmed animal infect humans. (Davis, Karen) Cattle can be infected with mad cow disease by containing tissue from the central nervous system. This can also transmit to human consumer of beef products. “The Republican Party has not been known for supporting animal issue. Indeed it has been historically thought of as the party of the NRA, big business, and the Pharmaceutical Industry. ” (Greek, Ray) Pharmaceutical companies jumped onto this subject, because animal tests were reliable predictors for human disease.

If a drug caused unforeseen injury, the company could claim careful diligence in front of a jury.A drug has been tested on numerous animal species and found it safe. Since the products were tested on animals and thought the drug was safe, there was little that the pharmaceutical company could’ve done. Animal testing spent a whole lot of money in the testing process. “The cost of animal testing was less than ten percent of the total cost of the drug to market. With the average cost to market of $1.

2 to $1. 4 billion, ten percent becomes real money. ” (Greek, Ray) In today’s environment, there is no room for wasted costs.Has all the money been spent on animal testing really make safer pharmaceuticals? In the real world what has become of it today? We need to stop animal testing from preventing. We shouldn’t have to hurt other animals because it’s just like hurting a human.

Why make innocent animals suffer with this harsh cruelty? They don’t deserve this, as much as we don’t deserve it. Works Cited “Animal Testing 101. ” Stopanimaltests. 6 Nov. 2007.
