Another example of the structure is portrayed by the periodic involvement of both points of view. The boy claims that he shouldn't be told the same narrative by his father but a new one while the father responds only in thoughts by telling his son to listen to the alligator story or the angry story for another time. This portrays relationship complexity because the father wishes to inform his son the story with love as stated "and father's love" (Line 23) before his son matures and leave.

Besides the structure use, Lee also used metaphor to portray this complex relationship. The father is described screaming to the kid by saying demanding if the boy is a god that his father should sit mute before him.

By exclaiming that his son is like god but also a child, complex nature of the relationship is seen.
