Mahatma Gandhi once said that change is nature. I personally agree and add that change is an opportunity for one to grow and be a better person. I am elated that I got an opportunity to grow and be the best I can be. When I was 13 years old, I was given the opportunity to study in New Zealand. I was happy and sensed hope at the end of the tunnel. I am a Muslim and therefore come from a Muslim community that does not support education for women and I was lucky enough to get the opportunity. I feel motivated that I will be the pioneer generation that will move it to college from my community. While schooling in New Zealand, I Was surprised by everything I came across .One time, at my second and current school, the schoo

l sponsored us to a trip to a University and noticed him although I had never seen him before in our school before, and thus I did not know his name.

On arriving in the University, we were taken around the institution for a brief tour. it could be a good opportunity to get to know him. I therefore asked him if we could pair up with him.

We eventually started talking and I thereby noticed that he had an accent of which I found out that he was a German. We talked the whole time we were in the lab and even after the activity. He was 19 and I was and he came to our school in 2013 and he had to go back to his country after his mother was murdered by his father. This fact shocked me and even asked him how he managed to school in the institution since it is a private school and in a different country. He told me that he had worked for 3 years both day and night in order to be able to come back to school to reach his dreams and goals.

I felt very much ashamed of myself since he had through much more and worse situations that personally I would not be able to realize that there are billions of people in this planet who do not have families, disabled, homeless and even dying. I had been ignorant for so long of the many opportunities that have come on my way and I have never been able to appreciate. I have therefore realized complaining does not solve anything and all I have got to do is change because each morning woke up, I make change a decision of who I want to be because I want to be the best I can be. As I conclude, I remember a re- known speaker once said that change begins with oneself.
