Since my childhood, I have always have the dream of one day being an engineer and specifically being a well renowned mechanical engineer. I have been always attracted to mechanical and manufacturing engineering activities and especially how these engineers are always involved in technical and complicated engineering activities such as designing and manufacturing a motor vehicle. Engineering is an important subject which forms the backbone of industrialization and therefore without engineering in the society, we would not be able to enjoy the fruits of modern transportation mediums such as airplanes, motor vehicles and ships (Wrobel 273). Based on the importance of modern engineering and my desire of one day being a well-qualified engineer in the country, I will therefore want to pursue mechanical engineering when joinin

college. The job market trends is an important indicator that an individual can use in assessing the viability of the career a student may want to pursue in the future.

The job trend indicates whether the course/career the student want to pursue is still relevant in solving societal needs or not. The field of mechanical engineering is currently witnessing several changes and trends which seems to be transforming it for the better. One of the current trend in mechanical engineering in the country is the increased demand of mechanical engineering related services which has prompted many firms to consider hiring mechanical engineers to help the company achieve some engineering related goals (Sargent Jr 35). With the increased demand of engineering services, the hourly wage or the annual wage that a mechanical engineer receives is on the increase thus indicating on how good the field of mechanical engineering is currently changing. The other important job trend in the above career is the aspect of technological utilization which seems to be on the increase with many engineering firms currently applying modern technology to help perfect their services to their clients.

In order to be considered as a mechanical engineer, I will need to undertake a four year mechanical engineering course in one of the colleges that offer engineering courses in the country. It is of much importance for students to analyze the performance of the university or colleges that they want to go and whether such learning institutions offer qualified teachings on some of the services they want to pursue. I would prefer pursuing my mechanical engineering studies at the Syracuse University which is today considered as one of

the best colleges that offer mechanical engineering courses in the country.

The institution was ranked among the top 10 best mechanical engineering schools in the world in 2015 thus making it one of the best destination to pursue engineering related courses (www.topuniversities.com). In order to pursue my course in the institution, I would be forced to pay a total of $180,000 and it will take me approximately four semesters (2 years) to complete the course. After completing my career in engineering, I will first work as an intern in one of the mechanical engineering firms in the country so as to get the basic practical experience and to also enhance my career development. After working in the firm as an intern for a period of one year, I will opt to have the career of either mechanical engineering consultant or operational mechanical engineer in any of the firm that operates in mechanical engineering services. As a qualified engineer, I would be required to display high level of workmanship in engineering field as I will be required to design and implement engineering ideas into reality. I will also be required to offer workable solutions to some mechanical problems such as in the industries.

Every career has its specific sector where a person may be employed. As a mechanical engineer, I will have the chance of being employed in manufacturing and mechanical industries. I however, would prefer to seek employment opportunity in an automobile manufacturing company such as the General Motors Company. As a mechanical engineer it is necessary for an individual to acknowledge the high chances of relocating to new places if duty calls. For this reason, I

will have no reason why not to accept relocation request incase am needed to do so by any of the firm that would like to hire me as a consultant or as a mechanical machine operator.

Salary and compensation is another important aspect that individuals considered when seeking employment. Whether to be paid hourly or monthly salary depend on the type of services a person offers and the terms and condition of the firm a person works in. I would prefer to be paid monthly salary in case I am employed as a permanent mechanical engineer in a firm but will opt for hourly wage if I was to be an engineering consultant. My expected annual income as a mechanical engineering is about $230,000. Based on my desire to be an engineer, I have the room for advancement and may opt to pursue masters and PhD in the same field in the future.
