Cell phones can be distracting; this creates problems such as using them while driving or during class. Such distractions can significantly interfere with one's attention to the task at hand. Some theories suggest that cell phones could even cause cancer.

Cell phones can be remarkably costly.

Contrary to the statement that talking on the phone while driving is as distracting as conversing with a passenger or listening to the radio, using phones is much more intrusive. As the person on the other side of the line is unable to observe the driver's fluctuating level of focus, they cannot adjust their discussion appropriately, unlike someone in the car.
