First of all, my name is Sio Tevaga; I am the youngest out of three. I was raised in the island of Samoa which is located about 5000 miles south of Hawaii. As a little kid, I was always competitive in all that I did especially when it came to sports. For example, racing was the one thing that I would say I mastered simply because I would out run all the kids that would race against me. Around the age of nine, that’s when my life started to turn in terms of blessings and trials.

One ordinary day at home, our phone rang and my mother answered it as if she would answer any other phone calls. The one thing that hit me was when she started to cry. As a kid, I went and hugged her keeping her comfor

ted, but her emotions kept her weeping as time passed by. Minutes passed and seconds thrive by she continues to cry and little did I know, our plain ticket to come to America was in the process being made.

The first thing that my mom said to me after hanging up was, “pack and get ready for the state of Washington. ” The first thought in my mind was, “did someone in America win lottery money in our family? ” The plane landed in Hawaii and getting ready to switch planes made me angry not only because I had to fly there by myself but it already had been 15 hours since I’ve been in that plane.

As I was getting ready to switch planes for my destination to Washington, the view of Hawaii made me realize

how wonderful and beautiful God created everything. The first thing that came to mind was, wow this is really a beautiful place and I would love to live here. As I was sitting their waiting to exchange planes my cellar phone rang and it was my older Sister telling me that she was excited to pay our ticket because of how much she wanted see my mom and I.

My reaction to this was nothing more that one word, “wow”, to find out at the moment that my older my sister had paid our fair made me realize that God had not forgotten about us. Getting into elementary school was really a troublesome situation for me because of how student would made front of my accent and especially the way I dressed. The thing that really caught my eyes and the way I felt was the selfishness of the students that were their. In addition to this, one day as the lunch bell rang and as the students are racing to win the front spot in line, I took my time simply because my mom made me lunch.

As I was eating, I noticed a kid next to me with no food, so inside I felt bad and so I offered him my whole entire lunch. The funny thing is, the very next day at lunch time, guess who didn’t have food this time? Yeah me! So sitting their expecting the same kid I offered food too the previous day to give me some of his, he doesn’t even bother looking at me. As I got older and got into high school, things got really

ugly my freshman year. Hanging out with the wrong crowd changed my whole perspective on school and how I should apply my knowledge to school work.

I can honestly say that my highest grade was probably a C out of the whole year. The beginning of my life changing didn’t take place till my sophomore year when I met my older cousin who decided to be hard on me in school.

Part of that was him keeping me into football and other sports he thought I would be good in. It wasn’t till junior year in high school where I really took football serious. My senior year made me who I am today and a reason why I still strive to be the best in what I do. Leading the team with sacks and coming third of fourth in tackling made me realize that maybe I can make it to the next level of playing football. College ball) As the year went by and students were getting ready to graduate, I meet a young girl who basically brought me closer to God and made me realize that I could do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Our friendship had ups and downs sort of thing but I truly thank God that he has brought me to her.

The personality and the perspective that she had towards the world helped me understand things I really couldn’t comprehend on my own. But school was getting close to summer and graduation was right around the corner and I prayed so much for a college to attend.

So as my coaches and family members helped out with applying at different

colleges for me, I continued to pray and asked God for help. One day a student teacher showed up at my school teaching my weight lifting class and I believe that God started to answer my prayers their and then. This student teacher played football at where I am at now and I know that if I had never met him, I would not be playing football right now. Getting here was one of the moments that I count as a blessing from God because their was no other way that I would have gotten into college grades wise.

As Coach Lee offered me a scholarship to play for him it made me very happy and thankful. To be able to make it this far in life is a huge blessing simply because of the struggles that I faced throughout my high school career and the dangerous relationships that I had got involved in. Life today is a fight and I thank God that he is faithful and generous in our behalf at all times. My lord Jesus Christ has saved me and kept me in his arms and through him I will never fail. In this world, life sometimes brings trials and tribulations but thank God it made me who I am today.
