Though not necessarily negative it has been shown how this can affect adolescent girls' minds according to publications such as USA Today which reported on the current generation prioritizing extrinsic values like money fame image etcetera.Television, particularly shows like Gossip Girl, has greatly influenced young girls' fashion sense. The media teaches them that their clothing and appearance are crucial in making a good impression on others. Expensive and trendy attire is promoted as a way to gain admiration and power, leading girls to believe that dressing like popular celebrities will make them more well-known. However, TV shows can also have negative effects on young girls by normalizing alcoholism, sexual behavior, and drug use. This can poison their minds and affect their perceptions of femininity. Moreover, cliques portrayed in TV shows represent the supposed hierarchy of high school life where superficial things like hot dates and displaying wealth are necessary for social acceptance and respect. As such, owning trendy items and amassing materialistic wealth become significant factors in achieving success and climbing the social ladder at the expense of others for many high school girls who have been shaped by television's impact on their perception
