While on probation, the offender is continuously monitored 24/7 and undergoes random alcohol and drug testing. The offender must follow instructions from their caseworker. Parole, however, involves even stricter guidelines where offenders remain supervised by a parole agency until their sentence ends. Reentry refers to the controlled process of reintegrating a released individual into society, which can be a successful transition for the previously incarcerated person.

The discretionary release is a supervised release of an inmate from prison that is determined by the parole board or another authority. Rehabilitation options include behavioral counseling, drug and alcohol court, psychosocial counseling, and academic classes to attain a high school diploma, G.E.D., or further education for trade school. Restitution payments to victims or their families are required. Additionally, employment opportunities, community support groups, behavioral management, unsupervised sentencing, or shock probation may be mandated.

In my opinion, rehabilitation is the most effective approach to reducing crime as it provides various opportunities for offenders to reform themselves. This can be achieved through counseling, classes, probation, parole, and other measures that aid in rebuilding their lives and successful reintegration into society. While deterrence is a significant objective in the corrections system, I believe that rehabilitation offers a more enduring solution in preventing crime. The implementation of community supervision-based rehabilitation has the potential to have a lasting effect on offenders, discouraging them from participating in future criminal activities.

If offenders are willing to learn how to adapt into society by acquiring academic or trade skills, these programs can assist them

in finding jobs, securing an important role in society and their community, and providing them with a sense of well-being. Therapy is also an effective form of rehabilitation that helps prevent offenders from committing future crimes. This includes drug therapy for offenders addicted to drugs and psychological counseling for individuals who grew up in an abusive home. The aim of therapy is to transform a criminal's attitude and resources so that crime is neither desired nor necessary.

Probation allows offenders to support themselves within society, reducing reliance on taxpayer's money and state resources for isolation and dependence. While punishment is commonly favored over rehabilitation in today's society as a form of justice, I believe that some individuals deserve a second chance. Their learning and transformation methods may vary, but adaptability is essential to prevent the need for a third opportunity.
