1966. It has a total of 21 field officers in India who provide facilitation services. Out of these, 18 officers work in overseas countries to attract tourists to India. ITDC also collaborates with Air India to create joint promotional campaigns in countries such as the US, UK, Europe, Australia, and others. Its activities include construction, management, and marketing of hotels and restaurants.

The ITDC provides tourist transport facilities, production and distribution of tourist materials, entertainment facilities, and more. They also offer education in tourism and travel management through the Indian institution of Tourism and Travel management, which is an autonomous body. Additionally, they organize entrepreneurship development programs, seminars, workshops, etc. Another institution, the Institutes of Hotel Management and Catering Technology, offers degree and diploma courses in Hotel Management, nutrition, etc across different regions of the country.

5. The National Institute of Water Sports, located in Goa, offers courses such as sailing, scuba diving, water skiing, and more. However, there is a need for attention as India's tourist traffic share remains static at 0.38%, despite the global industry experiencing an average growth of 5%.

Despite the negative impact of the September 11 attack in the Asia-Pacific region, neighbouring countries have taken advantage of the opportunity for their growth. This event resulted in a loss of 4.4 million jobs and a decline of 5.7% in tourism demands. However, India is eagerly looking forward to showcasing its unique qualities such as its ancient civilization, natural landscapes, traditions, music, dance, religious practices, exclusive festivals, and art & craft. The focus of international travelers has shifted from developed regions to developing regions.

The challenges to be addressed include unhealthy environments at many

tourist sites, poor facilities and services, insufficient transportation options, and inadequate infrastructure. Additionally, there is limited availability of tourism information at select locations.

Regional conflicts are negatively impacting tourism in certain areas, as a lack of adequate security makes tourists feel unsafe. To address these challenges, ITDC needs to enhance its capabilities in order to provide facilities like a conducive environment and comprehensive tourism information at tourist sites. Efforts are being made to strengthen transportation options, but accessing tourist spots from nearby towns and cities remains difficult. The Department of Tourism should prioritize implementing its recommendations, with both the Central and State Governments investing heavily in developing infrastructure for the utilization of tourist spots.

Tourism information needs regular updating, and websites should provide enhanced information with attention-grabbing phrases. Toll-free numbers can be utilized to allow tourists easy access to information. The Government should address security issues and regional conflicts. Relaxing visa requirements can attract a greater number of tourists for longer stays. Involving the private sector can improve the service provided to tourists. Additionally, investment in human resource development programs related to the travel and tourism industry can facilitate its promotion.

Various aids such as short films and photographs can be utilized to promote different places and catch the attention of travelers. Introducing well-designed and focused tour packages may also be effective in attracting tourists. In conclusion, India, as an underdeveloped country, has great potential for promoting tourism. By enhancing its current strategies, India can become a top tourist destination, leading to substantial foreign exchange earnings for the country.
