The person has most influenced my life It is easy to say that a parent has had the most influence on your life, they taught you how to walk, talk, drink and among many other things hopefully right from wrong.

A good parent is there for you most of your life, quick to lend a hand or offer advice (unless it’s your mother-in-law) when needed, but the trait that impacted my life the most was the integrity my father exhibited with me and the people lucky enough to have met him.My Father was born to a farmer in NJ a few short years after the depression, learned the lessons that only hard labor can teach from a young age. Working on the farm is not easy, the days are long, the chores are ext

remely physical and dirty and if you’re a kid all this happens before you even go off to school each morning. I think this is where my dad learned the lessons that made him into the man I have come to admire so much. He is a fair man who has always puts the needs of his family ahead of his own.

He was not one for long winded lectures rather he led and taught by example. There was nothing that would hurt me more than my Dad saying he was disappointed in my behavior and nothing better than hearing how proud he was in the way I acted or what I had accomplished. If you were to ask my father how he made the tough decisions in life he would tell you it was simple. Well maybe it is when you have

an uncompromising set of ideals and sure sense of what is fair.

I can remember when I was only 10 years old and my father was offered a high level position with his company but the position would require for us to move to Texas. We lived in a small town with a great school and lots of friends, my mother and father were both involved in the volunteer Fire Department and I think I knew everyone in town. Everyone looked out for each other and most important we felt safe. My dad easily turned down the position and never regretted it, although I am certain on a professional level he would have enjoyed the challenge. To this day I often think back to that sacrifice when I am analyzing similar options in my career.

The first priority in my life is creating a stable nurturing environment for my family, not buying them the most video games. My Dad did ok making money and supporting our family, we had a nice house and plenty of toys and TV’s but what I remember the most was that he was home every night and weekend to enjoy them with us not at the office. My father is a big football fan and even wrote in my baby book that he hoped I would grow up loving the game as much as he does. Well his dream came true as I am a self proclaimed football junkie.A few months prior to my Freshman year of High School I announced I would be trying out for the freshman football team which elicited excitement from my Dad and concern from my mother.

I was not the biggest or fastest kid and the chances of making the team as a wide receiver were slim.

Our school was small so I would probably make the team but playing was a different story. My Dad offered his help and explained that there are no guarantees but if I practiced all summer and worked hard that it didn’t matter if I was the starting wide receiver or not I would be the best I could be and that’s all we can do in life.Well if I had a dollar for every pass my dad threw to me in the back yard that summer I would be a rich man. Looking back I wonder how sore he must have been each night but you would have never known, he would rush home from work every night to get a few hours of practice in with me without fail. Well this story has a happy ending as rarely dropped a pass when practice began in September and when the first game rolled around I was in the started lineup. I remember the sense of accomplishment more than actually realizing my dream.

It was great being the starting wide receiver but what felt better was the fact that I worked so hard and I knew I had done everything I could. My Dad was right I felt good no matter the outcome because I had put the work in. I know I have made my dad proud by the way I live my life and I am glad he instilled such strong family values in me. I hope I can be as influential with my

sons as he was with me.

I don’t know if I can make every practice, game or event like he did but I know they come first. Thanks Dad!
