What is Stage Fright?
Stage fright is a condition in which an individual experiences extreme anxiety, fear, or panic when performing before an audience. It is a very common experience and can occur to performers of all levels of experience and skill. While it is often thought of as something that only happens to beginning performers, stage fright can affect even the most seasoned professionals.For many people, the idea of performing in front of others can be intimidating enough without actually having to do so. In some cases, even thinking about going on stage can trigger feelings of dread or panic. The physical symptoms associated with stage fright usually manifest themselves through increased heart rate and sweating palms among other things. There may also be mental and emotional components such as racing thoughts and difficulty concentrating due to being too focused on the performance itself instead of connecting with the audience members. There are several strategies you can use to help manage your stage fright including preparing thoroughly beforehand, taking deep breaths prior to your performance if possible, focusing on one task at a time rather than getting overwhelmed by the entire process, visualizing yourself succeeding during practice runs leading up to your performance, exercising regularly prior to going on stage so that you are physically prepared for anything that may arise while onstage, utilizing supportive props like music sheets or notes after careful practice beforehand making sure they are not distracting but helpful tools for success; lastly try grounding techniques such as counting down from five slowly out loud or imagining yourself in a safe place where there is no one around you judging what you’re doing but simply enjoying it for what it is. Stage fright does not have to prevent you from pursuing your passion for performance art. With proper preparation ahead of time combined with mindful relaxation techniques during performances themselves anyone should be able get up on their feet regardless how scared they feel.
