What is Recruitment And Selection?
Recruitment and selection are two of the most important parts of an organization’s human resources management strategy. Recruitment is the process of sourcing, identifying, and engaging potential candidates who possess the skills and competencies required to fill a role within an organization. Selection is the process of evaluating the candidates identified through recruitment to determine which individual best meets the job criteria and organizational values. The overall goal of recruitment and selection is to build a strong workforce that will be capable of achieving organizational objectives. To do this, employers must ensure that they have access to a sufficient pool of qualified applicants from which to choose, use effective methods for assessing candidate suitability for each position, and create a fair selection process that enables them to make informed decisions about hiring. Recruiting involves actively seeking out qualified applicants by marketing roles available within an organization through various channels such as job postings on websites or in newspapers, social media campaigns, or attending career fairs. As part of this process employers must define key job requirements for each available role so that potential applicants understand what is expected from them if they are successful in their application. Employers may also consider including diversity initiatives into their recruitment plans in order to promote equality and broaden their talent pool. Once recruiting has taken place employers must then evaluate each applicant against criteria such as experience, skillset, availability/flexibility etc., in order to select those individuals most suitable for the role at hand. The selection process usually entails several steps such as conducting initial telephone screenings with potential candidates; administering written tests; interviews; reference checks; background checks; personality assessments; and finally making a decision on whom to hire based on all gathered information.
