What is Mental Health?
Mental health is an important issue that affects individuals of all ages, backgrounds and walks of life. It is defined as a state of well-being in which an individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community. Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It influences how we think, feel and act.Good mental health isn’t just the absence of mental illness; it’s much more than that. It allows us to live life fully with resilience in times of adversity. Mental illnesses such as depression are becoming increasingly common among people today due to factors like stress from work or home life, poor nutrition habits and lack of physical exercise. Acknowledging the signs early on can help reduce their impact if timely treatment is sought out from professionals who specialize in this field. Helping someone who has difficulty coping with everyday tasks could be as simple as listening without judgment for them to vent any frustrations they may have or providing them with resources such as hotlines for support during difficult times. It’s also beneficial for everyone regardless if one struggles with mental illness by practicing self-care tactics such as getting adequate sleep, eating nutritious meals regularly and engaging in activities you enjoy all of which allow your body’s natural healing process to kick start itself into gear so you can remain mentally healthy throughout your lifespan. Additionally having strong relationships with family members/friends has been linked time after time again in studies conducted worldwide showing its importance when it comes down taking care yourself emotionally.
