What is Joan Of Arc?
Joan of Arc is a legendary figure in French history and an iconic symbol of courage and resilience. She was born in 1412 to Jacques d’Arc and Isabelle Romée, a peasant family living in the village of Domrémy, France. Joan had visions from God as a young girl that told her to support the French king Charles VII against the English who were occupying northern France at the time. In 1429, at age 17, she convinced Charles VII to allow her to lead his army against the English. Despite having no military training or experience, she led several successful campaigns against the English forces and liberated much of northern France.Joan of Arc was captured by Burgundian allies of England during one of these battles and put on trial for heresy by pro-English clergymen. She refused to recant her faith despite facing torture and execution, and was burned at the stake in 1431 at age 19. Her legacy lives on today as an inspirational symbol for many women who have overcome obstacles in their liveswhether it’s facing gender discrimination or other forms of injusticeand achieved greatness despite all odds. In 1920 she was canonized as Saint Joan by Pope Benedict XV after more than four centuries since her death.
