What is Drugs And Alcohol?

Drugs and alcohol are two of the most serious and widespread problems facing society today. They have a negative impact on individuals, families, workplaces, and entire communities. Drugs and alcohol can lead to the destruction of lives in more ways than one, including physical health, mental health, finances, relationships, work performance and more. Drugs are psychotropic substances such as marijuana, cocaine, heroin or methamphetamine that cause changes in mood and behavior when taken into the body. These drugs can be highly addictive due to their effects on the brain’s reward system. In addition to their potential for addiction they also can cause long-term mental and physical health issues such as impaired judgement leading to risky behavior or overdose; organ damage; increased risk for heart attack or stroke; depression; anxiety; memory loss; difficulty sleeping or concentrating; etc. Alcohol is a legal substance widely available throughout society but its misuse can have far reaching consequences as well. Alcohol abuse is defined as drinking too much that it causes problems with relationships or causes people to engage in risky behaviors such as driving while intoxicated which could result in death or injury for themselves or others involved. Alcohol abuse increases risks for various types of cancer including liver cancer along with other medical conditions such as cirrhosis of the liver, pancreatitis and cardiovascular problems like arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat). Long-term alcohol abuse can also cause psychological issues like depression which could lead to suicide attempts if not addressed appropriately by a qualified health care professional. The effects of drugs and alcohol on individuals are devastating both physically and mentally but there is help available if someone is willing to seek it out. Treatment options include therapy sessions either one-on-one with a therapist/counselor or group counseling sessions with peers who are also struggling with addiction issues. Other treatment options may include detoxification programs where an individual will abstain from using drugs/alcohol under medical supervision until detoxification has been completed successfully after which therapy would begin addressing underlying issues causing them to turn towards substance abuse in the first place.
