What is Developmental Psychology?

It often overlaps with other disciplines such as educational psychology, social psycology, cognitive psychology and even neuroscience. The core concepts within this field include understanding biological processes (such as hormones), psychological processes (including attachment theory) , social contexts (including culture), and learning experiences which are all essential for healthy growth. Developmental psychologists strive to understand why certain individuals develop differently than others due to genetics or environment by applying research methods such as surveys, naturalistic observation or lab experiments involving animals or humans at different stages of life span including prenatal stage right up till old age . This helps us gain insight into mental processes such as memory formation , problem solving skills etc in order to better understand the impact they have on behaviour across ages . Finally , knowledge gained from developmental psychology helps professionals like teachers , therapists etc design interventions tailored specifically towards children needs so they reach their fullest potential . Thus it could be said that studying this field can lead not only to academic advancement but also foster human well being .
