What is Botany?
Botany is the scientific study of plants, which includes their anatomy, physiology, ecology, and evolution. Botanists study all aspects of plant life in order to better understand how they interact with their environment. This knowledge can be used to help find cures for diseases, develop new varieties of crops or food products, improve agricultural practices, or conserve important habitats and ecosystems. Botany has a long history that dates back thousands of years; however modern botanical research began in the 18th century when Carl Linnaeus developed the system for classifying plants. Today there are numerous branches of botany such as plant pathology (disease diagnosis and control), cellular biology (cell structure and function), soil science (nutrient uptake) , genetics (genetic manipulation) , forestry (management practices)  and horticulture (cultivation techniques). Botanists work in laboratories or fields conducting experiments or collecting data on a variety of topics related to plants. The discoveries made by these scientists have led to a greater understanding of our planet’s complex network of organisms and systems.
