What is Book Of Genesis?
The Book of Genesis is the first book in the Bible, and is part of the Torah. It tells the story of God’s creation of the world and humankind, as well as other important events in early human history. The narrative begins in Genesis 1 with God creating heaven and earth, and culminates with Joseph’s rise to power in Egypt in Genesis 50. In between these two major arcs are stories about Adam and Eve, Noah’s Flood, Abraham’s Covenant with God, Isaac’s birthright, Jacob’s life with his twelve sons (including Joseph), and various other stories from this ancient period. The Book of Genesis reveals a great deal about God’s natureHis power over creation, His love for humanity, His deep concern for justice, fairness, mercy and compassion. As readers move through its pages they can learn how to live according to those principles today. Throughout the book there is an emphasis on faithfulnessGod promises to never leave us or forsake us (Genesis 28:15). He also blesses each individual who follows Him faithfully (Genesis 12:2-3). The Book of Genesis provides essential information about how humans were created by God as His image bearers; how sin entered into the world; why death was introduced; why marriage was instituted; why nations have been divided up according to language groups; what our purpose is on earth; what judgment awaits those who reject Him; why Christ had to come into the world; etc. In short it gives answers to all our big questions about life. So while it can be easy to overlook this ancient book as part of a larger theological puzzle we must not forget that within its verses we find some incredible insight into who we are and where we come from. Whether you are a Christian or simply someone interested in learning more about history I encourage you take some time out of your day today to read through some select passages from The Book Of Genesis – Who knows? You may just find something new.
