What is African National Congress?
The African National Congress (ANC) is a South African political party and the country’s governing party. It was founded in 1912, and has been the ruling party since 1994. The ANC is a multi-party democracy that promotes human rights and social justice for all citizens of South Africa. The party is centered around the ideals of non-racialism, national unity, and social progress. The ANC has worked to promote equality, peace, and economic development throughout its nearly century long history. They have fought for civil rights for all citizens of South Africa regardless of race or gender, as well as actively working to end Apartheid. As part of their commitment to peace and stability in the region they have engaged in negotiations with other political parties such as Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), Azanian People’s Organisation (AZAPO) , United Democratic Front (UDF), Pan Africanist Congress (PAC). These efforts eventually resulted in the adoption of a new constitution by referendum in 1996 which enshrined democratic values like freedom of expression, assembly and association within it. In addition to promoting equality at home, the ANC has also taken an active role on the international stage advocating for Africa’s interests. They are members of numerous international organizations such as: The Organization Of African Unity (OAU), United Nations Economic Commission For Africa(UNECA), Southern African Development Community(SADC). Through these organizations they have been able to push for greater economic integration between countries on the continent as well as tackle issues related to climate change and environmental protection across borders. In recent years they have also taken steps towards improving relations between Africans living outside South Africa through diaspora outreach initiatives which seek to strengthen ties between those communities and their homeland. The ANC continues to be one of South Africa’s most popular political parties due largely in part due its commitment towards progress despite all odds that may come its way during its long history since 1912 up till today 2019 .The party aims at providing a better future not just only for South Africans but also people from other parts of sub saharan africa through various progressive policies implemented by them while still respecting traditional values passed down generations ago. This makes them a pillar organisation when it comes promoting peace ,unity ,humanitarianism & dignity among others throughout africa & beyond .
