Introduction
Sunway Group was formed out of the merger of Sun City Berhad (SunCity) and the Sun Holdings Berhad which took place in August 23, 2011. Sunway Holdings commenced its operations back in the year 1986 and it was developed mainly by Bandar Sunway Township (Hoong and Lim, 2012 p.176). On the other hand, Sunway City Berhad was formed in the year 1982 and it mainly invested in the development of commercial, residential, leisure, retail and also healthcare properties. This mainly took place in Australia and Asia. It is mainly a special purpose company which was mainly formed through the acquisition of both SunCity and SunH Businesses. The construction works it offers both building and designing services particularly in the field of civil engineering, building construction, infrastructure, electrical and mechanical engineering (Hoong and Lim, 2012 p.177). In Malaysia alone, it captures the market in 12 industrial sectors namely construction, property, hospitality, retail, leisure, trading and manufacturing, commercial, quarrying, building materials, healthcare, real estate investment and education (Razali, 2014 p.318). Beyond Malaysia, the formally known as the tin-mining firm has be turned to a property development operating in China and Singapore, construction in India, Singapore, and in United Arab Emirates, there is manufacturing and trading in China, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, Thailand, and India. It has got building materials company and education in China and also hospitality in both Cambodia and Vietnam (Razali, 2014 p.320).
The company is enjoying a lot of success overseas as a result of the prudential system it is has adopted. This approach will achieve far reaching succes
since the group does a thorough financial analysis before conducting any form of oversea investment (Razali, 2014 p.322). At the moment, the group is having talks with the Chinese Manufacturing body with an aim of merging so that it can strengthen the trading and the manufacturing investments in China. Although the company is operating in nine countries, its future plans are mainly concentrated in China, Singapore and Malaysia.
