Summit Power Limited (SPL) is a Bangladeshi Independent Power Producer (IPP) and the only local company providing power to the national grid in private electricity generation and supply. It was incorporated as a Private Limited Company on March 30, 1997, and became a Public Limited Company under the Companies Act 1994 on June 7, 2004. Summit Group is a major investment and industrial business house in Bangladesh with interests in various sectors, including power generation, port operation, shipping, property development, construction, civil and hydro engineering, and trading. In 2001, it successfully built three power plants with an 11 MW capacity each for selling electricity to the Rural Electrification Board under a build-own-operate basis.The company has expanded its overall generation capacity to 105 MW. Summit Power Limited, through its subsidiary companies, plans to construct four additional power plants with a total capacity of 110 MW - two 33 MW plants in Jangalia (Comilla) and Rupganj (Narayanganj) established by Summit Purbanchol Power Company Limited, and one 33 MW plant in Maona (Gazipur) and an 11 MW plant in Ullapara (Sirajgonj) established by Summit Uttaranchol Power Company Limited.
