Blast furnace gas (BEG) is a combustible gas produced in large amounts by the iron and steel industry during the production process. This gas is obtained via gasification after a change from blast furnace coke. The use of BAG fired boilers has expanded, and they are now widely used in the steel industry. This is due to the low calorific value of blast furnace gas, which if not utilized, can cause environmental pollution and energy waste.

The combustion characteristics of firing blast furnace gas (BAG) were investigated theoretically and experimentally. These involved individual firing of BAG and co-firing it with coke oven gas (COG). Theoretical re

sults indicated that when firing BAG individually, there was a greater amount of fuel gas volume flow rate, a smaller amount of air volume flow rate, and a lower adiabatic flame temperature than when firing BAG with support fuel without preheating. Additionally, the volume flow rate of flue gas for the former was greater than the latter. Experiment results showed that when co-firing BAG and COG in a steel company's fueled-boiler, flame instability did not occur with gradual reduction in the amount of COG supply, even under higher or lower boiler loads. Furthermore, the rate of CO emission was very low.

Reducing the supply of COG had a positive impact on decreasing CA and Knox emissions.
