The racial disparities in the American high school education system create challenges in student advancement. According to Bryant (2015), African American students often face stereotypes that they are unprepared for college. These stereotypes result from existing discrimination in high school education, as nonwhite students are often denied necessary support, resources, and courses. This perpetuates racial gaps in high school advancement in America.
Higginbotham (2015) emphasizes that there is a lower presence of racism in the education system. However, they also find that white students consistently outperform non-white students in high school academics. It is observed that white students show more interest in pursuing STEM subjects like Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics compared to students from other racial backgrounds. Tischler (2013) mentions that this significantly affects high school advancement and placement in the United States. Additionally, Ban

The African American population faces low advancement rates in high school education due to poverty and lack of sufficient infrastructure and racial segregation practices (Wilson, DiIulio & Bose, 2013; Rury & Hill, 2015). Recognizing these educational gaps is crucial for developing strategies to address disparities in the education system (Olmos, Torres & Van Heertum, 2011). Compared to African Americans, whites have a higher likelihood of completing high school education by more than 10% because of greater resource availability (Feagin, 2014). Reducing the racial gap in high school advancement between whites and African Americans is achievable through addressing resource allocation and income disparities.
