Exercise 1
Step 1
1 of 5
In this exercise you have to write sentences by using the listed words in the correct form according to gender and number. You also have to add small missing words, like prepositions or articles.
Step 2
2 of 5
In this case we have 2 sentences: Jeanne / ĂȘtre / fille / professeur. Elle / ĂȘtre / brun / et / beau.
Step 3
3 of 5
First you have to put the verb **ĂȘtre** in the form that agrees with Jeanne, 3rd person singular. The correct form is: **est**. You have to add as well the definite article **la** because she’s not just some daughter, she’s the professor’s daughter. The professor as well needs his definite article **le**. At the end, you have to make the contraction between the preposition **de** – that you have added to express relationship between Jeanne and the professor – and the definite article **le**: **le** + **de** = **du**. The final result is: Jeanne **est la** fille **du** professeur.
Step 4
4 of 5
The second sentence: Elle / ĂȘtre / brun / et / beau. You’ll put the verb **ĂȘtre** in the form that agrees with **elle**, 3rd person singular. The correct form is: **est**. Now you have to change into feminine the given adjectives that are by default in the masculine gender: **brun** becomes **brune** by simply adding an **- e**, and the irregular adjective **beau** becomes **belle**. Therefore: Elle **est brune** et **belle**.
Step 5
5 of 5
Jeanne est la fille du professeur. Elle est brune et belle.
Exercise 2
Step 1
1 of 4
In this case, first you have to put the verb **ĂȘtre** in the form that agrees with Martin, 3rd person singular. The correct form is: **est**. You have to add as well the definite article **le** because he’s not just any brother, he’s Marc’s brother. Marc doesn’t need the article as personal names in French normally don’t take the article. Then you’ll just add the preposition **de** to express the relationship between Martin and his brother Marc. The final result is: Martin est le frĂšre de Marc.
Step 2
2 of 4
The second sentence: *Ils / ĂȘtre / pĂ©nible*. You’ll put the verb **ĂȘtre** in the form that agrees with **ils**, 3rd person plural. The correct form is **sont**. Now you have to change into plural the given adjective by simply adding an **-s**: **pĂ©nibles**. Therefore: Ils sont pĂ©nibles.
Step 3
3 of 4
Martin est le frÚre de Marc. Ils sont pénibles.
Step 4
4 of 4
See the explanation.
Exercise 3
Step 1
1 of 3
In this case we have: FĂ©lix and ClĂ©ment are Paul’s cousins. The correct form of the verb **ĂȘtre** is therefore **sont** and you have to add the definite article for the plural **les** before *cousins*. The final sentence is: **FĂ©lix et ClĂ©ment sont les cousins de Paul.**
Step 2
2 of 3
The second sentence is: *Ils / ĂȘtre / grand / cool*. The correct form of the verb **ĂȘtre** that agrees with **Ils** is **sont**. You have to change the adjectives so that they agree with the plural noun and you’ll do that by simply adding an **- s** to both adjectives: **grands, cools**. You also need a connection between these two adjectives so you’ll have to insert the coordinating conjunction **et** between them: **Ils sont grands et cools.**
Step 3
3 of 3
Félix et Clément sont les cousins de Paul. Ils sont grands et cools.
Exercise 4
Step 1
1 of 3
Here we have Marie and Karine, **elles**, the correct form of the verb is **sont**, we add the definite article for plural **les** before **copines**, than we need the preposition **de** to show the relationship between them and the cousin Guy. As the **cousin** needs the definite article for masculine singular **le**, together with the preposition **de** it will give us the contracted form **du**: **Marie et Karine sont les copines du cousin Guy.**
Step 2
2 of 3
The second sentence: *Elles / ĂȘtre / sympathique.* We put the correct verbal form **sont** and we make the adjective agree with the feminine plural subject. The adjective **sympathique**, as an adjective that ends in **-e** in masculine, has the same form in feminine, so we just need to add an **-s** for the plural: **Elles sont sympathiques.**
Step 3
3 of 3
Marie et Karine sont les copines du cousin Guy. Elles sont sympathiques.
