In this exercise you have to write the adjective that best correspond to each of the following statements.

Attention! Whatever adjective you choose, have in mind that French adjectives must agree with the noun they modify in **gender** and **number**.

The first one is the question: How is Oprah Winfrey? Fameuse, gentille, marrante (famous, nice, funny)… whatever you choose, Oprah needs an adjective that agrees with her gender (feminine) and the number (singular).

Elle est fameuse.

Maurice doesn’t like partying. He prefers to read. He is serious.
Il est **sérieux**.

If we were talking about a serious girl, she would be than: **sérieuse**, as masculine singular adjectives ending in **eux** form the feminine by changing **-x** to **-se** (sérieux – sérieuse).

Il est sérieux.

Same like the previous exercise:

Yasmine doesn’t like to work. She’s lazy – **paresseuse.**

One lazy boy would be: **paresseux**, as we know that masculine singular adjectives ending in **eux** form the feminine by changing **-x** to **-se**

paresseux – paresseuse

Elle est paresseuse.

Lucas and Étienne are neither funny nor nice. They are nasty. – **méchants**

In this case pay attention to the gender and the number of the adjective:

The general rule is that for feminine nouns or adjectives you add -e, for masculine plural nouns or adjectives you add -s, and for feminine plural nouns or adjectives you add -es.

Therefore:
méchant, m.sg.
méchants, m.pl.
méchante, f.sg.
méchantes, f.pl.

Lucas and Étienne are masculine plural, so we’ll have: **méchants**

Ils sont méchants.

How’s Naomi Campbell? Naomi is feminine singular, so watch out for the ending!

You could choose adjectives like:
beau, m.sg. – belle, f.sg, (this adjective has a very irregular feminine form like: fou – folle, mou – molle, nouveau- nouvelle, vieux – vieille);
grand, m.sg. – grande, f.sg.
charmant, m.sg. – charmante, f.sg.
joli, m.sg. – jolie, f.sg.

BUT, adjectives having a final -e in the masculine have the same form for the feminine, for ex.: adorable, magnifique, drôle, sympathique…

Elle est magnifique.
