The Bank of the United States was declared unconstitutional and seen as a monopoly that showed favoritism towards the wealthy. Despite its charter expiring in 1836, President Jackson took matters into his own hands by withdrawing federal funds from the bank and depositing them in various state banks, known as "pet banks." Even though this action lacked constitutional authority, Jackson carried it out anyway. This resulted in the rise of the Whig party who viewed Jackson more as a tyrant than a president. The controversy surrounding the protective tariff, specifically the infamous "Tariff of Abominations," sparked debates on the government's power to impose taxes for protecting industries in New England at the expense of Southern economy.
The nullification crisis and the passing of the Compromise of 1833 were later consequences of this issue. Additionally, Indian removal was another highly disputed matter. Althou
...gh the Indians were considered a sovereign state on paper, they were never treated as such in reality. The court case of Georgia vs.
Cherokee Nation (1831) witnessed Georgia's attempt to relocate the Cherokee nation from lands rich in gold mining resources. The outcome of the case resulted in the Indians losing their sovereignty, enabling their removal. Consequently, the Worchester vs. Georgia case (1832) followed, where Chief Justice Marshall made it known that a state cannot violate a federal treaty.
When Marshall sought support from Jackson, Jackson essentially instructed him to enforce his decision. Georgia blatantly disregarded the Supreme Court's ruling without facing any repercussions. The necessity for political reorganization arises only when there are issues with the functioning of the nation. Between 1820 and 1840, the American people encountered numerous political and economic difficulties. The drasti
actions taken by certain politicians, including Jackson, resulted in the establishment of fresh political entities.
