For my practical production, I plan on creating four media prints that are relevant to the genre of horror films. These will include a film poster, a DVD cover, a billboard, and a homepage for a website in an advertising campaign to promote an upcoming film titled "When Darkness Falls". During the planning process, I will gather various examples from the genre, such as horror movie trailers, film posters, billboards, DVD covers, and websites. This will help me identify the conventions of the genre in different formats and inspire ideas for the media prints that I will be producing.

My horror film production ideas will draw inspiration from successful films such as "The Haunting" and "Cold Creek Manor". While my story will differ from these films, which typically portray dominant female characters in supposedly controlling roles,

in reality, they reinforce male dominance. In "The Haunting", Eleanor is possessed by the evil spirit of her father, while in "Cold Creek Manor", the male protagonist defeats the haunting despite the woman knowing what's going on. My advertising campaign film aims to challenge societal stereotypes and dominant ideologies by featuring females who influence males. The target audience is both males and females aged 18-24.

I've rated my film as 18, making it unsuitable for persons under that age. The storyline presents the woman as the dominant character and appeals to the female audience, while male viewers are drawn to the male characters, who don't have to be dominant to be masculine. The male audience may find it amusing that the female is above the male, boosting their ego. The film supports women's strive for equality in society,

highlighting their authority and importance, while still acknowledging the male role. My target audience is college and university students or C1-C2 working persons, entering into the real world.

Relaxing and socializing with friends at the cinema can be an ideal way to handle societal pressures. My movie showcases diverse characters, appealing to people of all cultures and races. The film's representation of characters overcoming obstacles is inspiring, motivating viewers to establish themselves in society. At this point, the audience is likely seeking recognition within society while being self-aware. Female viewers will find the female characters' respect from men and their establishment in society alluring. Each genre has its own codes and conventions that acquaint viewers with the presented content.

The repetition of codes and conventions heavily influences how the audience understands and relates to text. Such codes may involve genre-specific iconography like haunted houses, knives, guns, violence, blood, villains and heroes. Horror films generally have a male-centric narrative structure with stereotypical male protagonists and antagonists. However, in "The Haunting," the female character deceives the audience into believing she is in control while acting on the evil spirit's commands. The film being promoted aims to challenge dominant stereotypes by featuring female characters taking control.

My film's strong selling point is its relatable representation of independent women fighting for equality in the 21st century, giving the audience faith. Titled "When darkness falls," it encodes a sense of impending horror as strange and scary situations befall the Taylor family in their new dream home. In contrast to stereotypical horror film heroes, the protagonist reflects the imperfect realities of modern society instead of being portrayed as a flawless robot.

The protagonist in my

film will display imperfections, poor judgment, and fall prey to misguidance, culminating in an alluring climax for the viewers. This will resonate with my intended audience as life invariably presents difficulties that must be surmounted. The female characters will be assigned some traditionally male tasks, such as taking charge and attempting to rescue the family, while the male lead will act as the female's supporting character - urging to safeguard the family but ultimately dependent on her capabilities. It has long been a common practice for society and institutions to exploit women's anxieties through advertisements suggesting their inability to function without male assistance, thereby reinforcing stereotypical beliefs about women.

The advertisement promotes female independence and control, conveying the message that a male is not essential for survival. This idea challenges traditional gender roles and empowers women. In horror movies, the presence of both heroes and villains is a convention, with supernatural entities often playing the latter role. This is evident in various media forms such as posters, DVD covers, Billboards and websites of classical and contemporary horror movies.

The films "The Haunting" and "Cold Creek Manor" both utilize black and red in their backgrounds to convey a sense of darkness, danger, horror, blood, and evilness. This effectively establishes the genre and helps the audience connect with the advertisement to understand what they can expect from the film. In all of the advertisements I researched, the names of the film stars were prominently placed at the top, indicating their importance and celebrity status. In terms of gender representation, I aimed to depart from the traditional view of women as an inferior gender lacking power. I studied an advertisement

for the film "The Women of All Horror Movies," featuring a woman presented as dominant over a man. She stood above him with a knife in hand and covered in blood, indicating her control over him and conveying a sense of power.

This film genre is increasingly acknowledged in contemporary society as a reflection of the evolving status and values of women. In my advertisement, I aim to promote this portrayal of women by incorporating similar techniques found in my research and satisfying the demands of my intended audience, thereby ensuring the success of my advertising campaign.
