In this assignment, I will provide a written reflective account of how my learning has progressed throughout the year. To do so, I will draw on one written assignment from semester one and demonstrate an understanding of the feedback provided by my tutor. Moreover, I will outline the ways in which my ongoing learning has been influenced.

In order to reflect on my growth as a student, I will utilize various learning resources, showcase my academic thinking skills, and adhere to academic practices at a higher level. Specifically, I will focus on the assignment titled 'development' from semester one. The tutor provided feedback on the assignment as a whole and offered suggestions for improvement. One key critique was that although I exhibited an understanding of fundamental concepts, I could have achieved a higher grade by thoroughly illustrating my points and co

nducting more extensive research to support my arguments.

According to Habeshaw and Gibbs (1995), being unable to effectively demonstrate a concept in an assignment could be due to lack of understanding of the essay question or title, uncertainty about the essay structure, and not knowing which points to make. Knight and Parsons (2003) added that a clear and logical essay structure is necessary for success. The tutor also pointed out my lack of research, which Budgen (2003) indicates can help individuals form objective arguments by utilizing a range of resources. To improve future assignments, I plan to borrow books and journals from the library in order to provide more evidence.

During a tutoring session, the tutor noticed mistakes in referencing and commented on unsupported points in the assignment. According to Ritchie and Thomas (2004), points without proper

backup are not considered important in academic writing. Referencing is crucial, as it helps readers identify the sources of information in an assignment (Greetham, 2001).

When working on assignments, it is crucial to follow the required referencing style to avoid committing plagiarism (Bells, 2000). Plagiarism is using someone else's work without acknowledging their source of information. To prevent this, one can take notes in their own words and record the source of information accurately. Referencing correctly is crucial in academic writing (Cottrell 2003) as it shows that the work is not someone else's. Consulting the university's reference guide can help achieve this as it provides clear guidelines on how to reference assignments to meet the university standard.

Reflecting on my first assignment completed in semester one, I received positive and negative feedback from my tutor (Foster, 2001) which can be useful for future assignments and improving my grade. As suggested by Cottrell (2003), feedback from a tutor allows individuals to develop skills missed the first time around, increase effectiveness in work, and develop new skills. The importance of proofreading was also emphasized by my tutor, who advised me to attend the student study support centre for proofreading services to identify grammatical errors, tense problems, and spelling mistakes (Burnes, 2003).

In order to enhance my assignments, I must evaluate my study skills using a diverse range of resources. As advised by Cottrell (2003), it is essential to identify areas of weakness for improvement. Through this reflective account, I have realized the significance of planning an essay to comprehend the overall question and develop academic writing techniques. Additionally, I have gained knowledge on accurately referencing to conform with college guidelines.

Lastly, I have acknowledged the importance of proofreading my assignments before submission to avoid errors in the content.

After being informed about the importance of proofreading in regards to spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure, I have come to understand that neglecting this task could result in a lower grade and lower chances of receiving anything above a passing mark.
