During this semester, I am enrolled in multiple courses including Kinesiology 220 - Introduction to Athletic Injuries. This class is particularly fascinating as it concentrates on the management of sports-related injuries from various perspectives such as a physical therapist, coach, athlete, or athletic trainer. The curriculum covers the causes of injuries, such as acute incidents that cause direct impact and chronic circumstances where long-term damage results from ongoing actions.
The discussion examines gender-based and sport-specific injuries. Women are more prone to ACL tears in their knees than men, but the exact cause is unknown despite various theories. One hypothesis suggests that a hormone produced during menstruation loosens muscles, making them easier to tear. Another theory attributes this phenomenon to the angle between hips and knees in women's bodies. Our last t
...est focused on emergency plans, where our professor, also serving as the school's head athletic trainer, shared Bronco Athletics' plan with us.
Within this course, a wide range of topics are covered, including how to address injuries, determining when medical care is necessary, or facilitating ambulance transportation if necessary. A prominent subject that has been discussed is eating disorders, which pose significant danger both physically and mentally. The prevalence of eating disorders in athletic settings such as gymnastics, dance, and wrestling is staggering. Much of the class comprises students studying athletic training, sport and exercise science, or physical therapy. Overall, this course offers insight into potential dealings within our selected majors.
With its help, we can obtain fundamental understanding concerning various injury types and how to deal with them.
