To illustrate the differences in health maintenance, health protection, and health restoration among cultures, three families are examined. The first family is Miss Monte; a single female who migrated to the United States from El Salvador with her sister at 19 years old. Salvadoran culture has a strong belief in God as the primary power for health and life control regardless of medical intervention. However, Miss Monte practices Catholicism and believes in modern western medicine while maintaining preventative measures such as scheduling regular check-ups with her physician, maintaining a healthy diet and exercise routine.
The Ping family consists of mom, dad, and two children who migrated to the United States from Shanghai, China 21 years ago. Unlike many others who migrate due to poverty, language barriers or fear

Miss Monte stresses the importance of adhering to these guidelines. Despite being currently healthy, both families acknowledge potential health issues. The Ping family stresses the importance of following their healthcare team's plan of care for restoring health; failure to heal can result in a loss of trust and seeking out a new team.
