Health care involves the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of illnesses, injuries, diseases, and mental/physical impairments to improve or maintain human health. Health professionals provide secondary care, primary care, public health, and tertiary care. The accessibility of health care differs across regions due to economic and social conditions as well as health policies. Any negative incidents in the health care industry are closely examined and can be controversial for a certain period.

Technology has significantly influenced different aspects of life, including medicine, leading to improved efficiency and effectiveness of drugs. However, as healthcare evolves, controversial matters may arise. This paper explores contentious issues in global healthcare. One anticipated issue is the terminology used for individuals receiving medical treatment. Some institutions are considering using "consumer" instead of "patient".

In the traditional sense, "consumer" has typically

referred to individuals who make purchases of specific products or services. However, within the healthcare field, the term "patients" is commonly used to represent those seeking medical treatment while being ill. Nonetheless, there is an ongoing discussion within healthcare systems regarding whether to apply the label of "patient" to all individuals receiving healthcare. This potential change could potentially create significant controversy within the healthcare system. One particular area where controversy may arise from this labeling is the belief that the healthcare system wants people to be sick so as to expand their customer base and generate higher profits. It is not uncommon for institutions or businesses catering to individuals or organizations to employ marketing strategies with the aim of attracting customers.

The adoption of the tag in the health care system prompts individuals to question whether the institution will engage in marketing campaigns. This designation

of patients as customers is misinformed and will undoubtedly provoke significant controversy in the foreseeable future. Although the discussion surrounding the use of GMO food has been limited in the past, the prevalence of numerous previously unheard of diseases is increasing worldwide. The opposition to the utilization of GMO food stemmed from concerns about its potential to induce cancer in humans (Mooney, Knox & Schacht, 2015).

Previously, it was impossible to test and validate this theory. However, presently, numerous diseases are leading to fatalities in developing nations. Consequently, the matter of GMO food is rapidly intensifying and anticipated to become a subject of intense debate soon. Certain diseases have already been linked to GMO food, marking just the beginning before additional controversies arise.

Biotechnology in healthcare, specifically cloning, will likely continue to be a subject of controversy in the future. Scientists have already conducted successful tests in cloning animals, and there is growing interest in using cloning as a means to develop missing body parts for individuals with physical challenges. One particular area of success has been the transplantation of cells for later harvesting and treatment of diseased body parts.

In 2010, South Korean scientists claimed to have successfully cloned a human embryo but later tests revealed that they had manipulated their experiments (Patel & Rushefsky, 2014). If cloning becomes successful in the future, people will oppose this advancement due to its potential impact on the balance of life. Additionally, cloned individuals may only serve as sources of organ transplants for others. Currently, cloning is a costly procedure. However, if it becomes affordable, there may be widespread attempts to clone humans which could lead to hazardous

outcomes. As more people become aware of cloning, this issue will gradually evolve into one of the most contentious subjects in healthcare.

All of these are possible future controversial issues that are likely to arise. One instance is the resistance in hospitals towards being called customers instead of patients. GMO foods are currently unpopular among many people and will eventually trigger a debate on their removal from the market. Cloning is another subject that lacks understanding among many individuals, but as more people comprehend the concept of cloning, it will generate controversy and possibly result in its elimination from healthcare.

Despite the potential benefits of discussing healthcare issues, it is important to acknowledge the negative aspects that may lead to controversy in the future.
