The Edwin Meese III Center for Legal and Judicial Studies at The Heritage Foundation, along with the State Government Leadership Foundation, is hosting the Preserve the Constitution series. This seven-event series will begin on Thursday, September 12 and feature state attorneys general Scott Pruitt from Oklahoma, Derek Schmidt from Kansas, Luther Strange from Alabama, and Alan Wilson from South Carolina.
The executive editor of the Weekly Standard, Fred Barnes, will moderate the event. He recently authored an article highlighting state attorneys general who are fighting to reinforce federalism - a foundation of our constitution that safeguards our freedom. The Constitution's architects established a federal republic with limited central government power that balances state governments' overall powers. However, over the past century, excessive central
...government growth has often jeopardized state sovereignty and accelerated under the current administration. This expansion has forced states to incur significant costs without reward. Some individuals question whether constitutional limits can be restored to the national government.
While facing legal disputes with the national government in areas such as energy, healthcare, environment, voting and elections, religious freedom, labour relations, and financial transactions, a group of state attorneys general - led by General Pruitt - are taking a stand against encroachment on state sovereignty. United in solidarity to support South Carolina's dispute with the National Labor Relations Board regarding Boeing plant ownership, they believe that staying quiet and inactive is not an option because any state could potentially face similar challenges.
