T. A’s can take steps to protect themselves within their everyday practice within the school setting and on off site visits. An important part of a T. A’s role would be to read all policies and procedures these are put into place to protect them and the children that you look after.
Always follow your settings policies and procedures. You should avoid being alone in a closed room with a child, if so leave the door open. If a child is late being collected then get another member of staff stay with the child until parents arrives When incidents or accidents occur always get a witness to sign the accident form. Off site visits you protect yourself by always follow your settings policies and procedures for off site visits, Ask the teacher to see a full risk assessment, in early years when we have ever gone on a school trip all adults are given a copy of all the information for that trip, for example : risk assessment, all the children’s information, parental/carers consent forms, all staff exchange mobile phone numbers etc. I as a first aider will take a first aid kit and any asthmas inhalers, Staff ratio is in line within the guidance of Ofsted Always have the child’s safety in mind
