The solid waste management situation in most Barangays in the Philippines, including Tangub, is problematic. Although our Barangay has made efforts to tackle this issue by implementing a solid waste program that involves a garbage truck collecting waste every Friday, there are still specific areas within our Barangay that remain unserviced. Additionally, certain residents continue to irresponsibly dispose of their garbage in the creek, resulting in floods during intense rainfall or typhoons.

The main issue in our purok is the flooding caused by insufficient waste management. However, there is a lack of cooperation to tackle this problem. The Philippines is facing severe environmental degradation due to human activities, which is exacerbated by a high annual population growth rate. The challenges encompass the loss of agricultural lands, deforestation, soil erosion, air and water pollution, improper disposal of solid and toxic wastes, the decline of coral reefs, mismanagement and abuse of coastal resources, as well as overfishing.

Despite previous deforestation, the remaining forests encounter persistent challenges such as agriculture, urbanization, illegal logging, and forest fires. Furthermore, insufficient waste treatment and rapid population growth have resulted in escalating contamination of the country's groundwater, rivers, lakes, and coastal areas. Moreover, neighboring water sources experience mercury pollution due to detrimental industrial substances found at deserted mining sites.
