To achieve his ambitions, Kino must possess the pearl, as he attempts to obtain it, but fails. Kino understands that while pursuing his aspirations, he will encounter malevolence; however, his excessive desire blinds him. His focus is solely on his ambitions, leading to his son's demise. If he had sold the pearl for 1500 pesos, he could have prevented his son's death. Nonetheless, as stated earlier, greed has the power to blind an individual. From my perspective, Kino is ensnared by the pearl and is incapable of freeing himself from its invisible trap.

Every day, a man does not often experience luck. However, when Kino does have a stroke of luck, he becomes overly ambitious and this experience teaches him a valuable lesson: "one should always be content with what they possess". Kino's elder brother is Juan Tomas, who is married to Apolonia. Juan Tomas cautions Kino about the potential repercussions of possessing the pearl. Unfortunately, Kino disregards his brother's advice, leading to unfortunate consequences. For instance, Juan Tomas acknowledges the presence of a devil within the pearl, but Kino chooses to keep it as a symbol of hope and as something that holds significance for his inner being.

When Kino defends himself and kills a man, Juan Tomas and Apolonia go into hiding with Kino's family. This demonstrates Juan Tomas' helpful nature, even though he is aware that he is assisting a criminal who could face imprisonment or even execution. Despite this, Juan Tomas remembers that he is Kino's brother and remains committed to supporting him and his family. In my

opinion, Juan Tomas is a humble man who appears content with his role in life. However, he understands Kino's desire to earn a significant amount from the pearl. Although Juan Tomas' role may be brief, it remains crucial.
