You are a Social Care worker and a service user, Hannah, tells you that she is unhappy taking her new medication. She thinks she does not need it and so she is throwing it away. You know from her care plan that Hannah does need to take the medication regularly and gets confused. Hannah begs you to keep this confidential and not to tell anyone especially her daughter, who she sees regularly, as her daughter will be very angry. Bi.
It is Hannah’s right to make decisions for herself and choose whether to take her medication or not. In this case from the information given it could be detrimental to her health as through Hannah not taking her prescribed medication she may be at risk of harm and therefore I would need to pass the information on to my Manager to ensure Hannah's wellbe

Confidentiality in general means that information will not be discussed outside of the social care setting. Bii. Describe the possible tensions that may arise between telling others of Hannah's decision and keeping this information totally confidential The information Hannah disclosed to me would be passed by my manager on to those dealing directly with Hannah's care for example her GP, who can work with Hannah to help her understand the benefits of taking her medication.
If the information was shared with Hannah's daughter this could cause upset and potential breakdown of the relationship with her mother as Hannah said he
daughter 'will be very angry' Also if you were to share the information with Hannah's daughter without her consent then she would lose all trust in you. Hannah has the choice whether to inform her daughter or not. It is your responsibility to disclose the information to your manager. Biii. Describe ways to maintain confidentiality in day to day communication. Confidentiality is a term that indicates preserving the privacy of the persons in which you care for.
This will mean that all information related to them will be kept in strict confidence for use only by the team of care providers. This includes information gained verbally or from resident or client records. All information is considered confidential when it pertains to medical care and client records. Breach of confidentiality is sharing information verbally or in written form regarding a resident or client with someone who is not on the care team of the resident or client, or who does not have a release of information form from the resident or client.
Indiscretion is an action in which you inadvertently share confidential information. There is no bad intent associated with an indiscretion. Informed consent is when a resident or client acknowledges and allows the release of information to other parties. This permission is given by filling out a legal consent form, which becomes part of the resident or client’s permanent record. Private is defined as not available for public viewing or knowledge. A social care worker should get advice about confidentiality when a situation arises and they feel it
may need to be broken as keeping such information to yourself causes you concern as it could result in harm to the person you are supporting, to someone else or to yourself. To get further information refer to your organisations policy on confidentiality and the disclosure of such information and if in any doubt ask your manager for further assistance. Task A Ai. To express needs, to share ideas and information, to reassure, to express feelings, to build relationships, socialise, to ask questions, to share experiences. People communicate in order to establish and maintain relationships with others, to give and receive information and instructions, to understand and be understood, to share opinions, knowledge, feelings, emotions, to give encouragement and show others they are valued. Communication is an essential tool a carer can use to meet the needs of children.
It is a basic requirement of my job role to communicate with individuals and their families, other members of staff on a daily basis. Communicating with other staff members ensures effective team working and continuity of care. It also ensures any health and safety issues are recognised and reported. All carers attend hand over at the beginning of each shift and also complete communication books after attending an individual, thereby keeping other staff informed and aware of current situations within the workplace. Individuals communicate with carers to express their needs and preferences and to ensure they are met.
As a carer I would discuss the options and choices available to the individual to allow them an informed choice regards their care. Aii. Describe two ways how
communication can effect relationships in an adult social care setting between individuals using the service, their carers, colleagues and other practitioners. Effective communication is important as it helps to pass clear, concise, informative and accurate information in order to decrease and eliminate the possibility of mistakes and risks to the people I am working with.
Let alone, if a carer did not pass the information of broken hoist and faulty sling. And later on another carer made an accident using it. It will create distrust and unfair relationship between team members for the lack of effective communication. Another way, a service user informed a carer about something in secret and request him to keep that secret. And carer exposed it to everyone. It will create disbelieve and break the relationship between service user and that carer.
