Stage 1: Selection

How do you think your character perceives the scenario? What were the verbal/non-verbal cues that justify your answer? Remember, in the selection phase it is usually the loud or out of the ordinary items that get selected first. As you work through this process, notice what is catching the attention of your character. What is not catching the attention of your character? What type of mood is your character in? My character that I was assigned was; Regina-working the desk.

From the very beginning of this scenario, Regina seemed to be in a good mood once this scenario began, but it became obvious there was unethical behavior going on in this work place. enario. Despite John’s unethical behavior, Regina remained to stay professional. From Regina’s perception, it seemed she was being to become frustrated with dealing with unethical behavior from her co-workers on a daily basis. From the beginning of this scenario, John was making inappropriate gestures and unnecessary comments to Regina. I admire the way Regina chooses to handle the situation, and I believe it was an ethical decision on her part.

John was out of line by calling Regina, by degrading names, such as, baby and sweet thing. However, Regina immediately responded very calmly and professionally and simply asked John to not send her inappropriate emails and use vulgar language in the work place. Her intentions were to respectfully let John know his behavior is inappropriate and not work related. In addition to dealing with John’s unethica

behavior, soon after another unethical character, Brian, walked over and initiated unnecessary conversation with John, while Regina was on a work related phone call and also calls Regina, baby. Her mood starts to dramatically change and she responds with, “Whatever!”

Stage 2: Organization

Now that you have perceived the scenario, you must organize the information of his/her surroundings. Take a look at each of the other characters in the scenario. Based on their looks alone, classify each of the characters. For instance, you might look at a woman in a business suit as being a successful person, or if you see a person driving in a limousine, you would think that they were rich. Assess the other characters based on what you see in the scenario There were three other characters in this particular scenario, other than my designated character, Regina. When organizing the information of Regina’s surroundings, I would begin with, John, whom starts the scenario by talking to Regina.

Based on his looks alone, he is presentable and professional dressed. Before actually hearing him speak, you would assume this was a well mannered, professionally dressed young man. Next, we come to Brian, another employee. He was the one holding the football. Now, this particular character was dressed not as professionally as John. Even though Brian was dressed in a shirt and tie, his shirt was baggy and un-ironed. Not to mention his posture was very sloppy. Therefore his presentation was perceived as very unprofessional. Lastly, we have Gerald, the assistant manager. My first impression was positive. He stood with good posture and was dressed neatly and professionally.

Stage 3:

Interpretation

Now that you have described your character and done a brief assessment of each of the other characters in the scenario, examine the non-verbal cues that the other members are giving through the video. Based on their tone, communication, and non-verbal cues write a brief description of your perception of each team member. In the beginning of this scenario, John starts talking to Regina in a very suggestive way. Even his body movements are inappropriate. John casually crosses his arms and rests them above Regina’s desk, looking down on her. Also, smirking and slightly winking in her direction.

When it was obvious to John, that Regina was offend, His whole demeanor changed, and started to act as he was suppose too. Most likely, he was just playing around, but in the work place that is not ethical behavior. John probably was just getting too relaxed at work and needed a reminder that professionalism is mandatory. Now on the other hand, Brian, the other employee, that was holding the football, is someone that is always looking to break the rules. He is inconsiderate and rude and talks inappropriately to other co-workers. Even when he is speaking to his supervisor he is rude and uncooperative.

His unethical behavior deserves consequence. Finally, we have Gerald, the assistant manager. He had to rely important information to Brian. Gerald was very professional when he approached Brian, but all Gerald received was a hard time from Brian. Gerald held his composure in spite of Brian’s unethical behavior and he did his job and gave him the message. In conclusion to this scenario, I feel ultimately feel bad

for the two characters; Regina and Gerald. They are the two characters that demonstrated professionalism and carried themselves with integrity. Both characters choose to stay ethical in unethical situations.
