Find a Job You Like and You Add Five Days to Every Week Essay Example
H. Jackson Brown, Jr. once famously predicted, “Find a job you like and you add five days to every week. " It’s a powerful statement, especially when so many of us burn through our work week to get to the weekend and do something we really enjoy. It’s also a reminder that there never seems to be enough time to do the things we love, which is why Brown’s quote should be considered on a deeper level in the hope we can apply it to our life. Finding any job, let alone the one you like, is hard enough to do in these economically challenging times.
However, if you’re determined to find purpose in your work, you need to ask yourself what makes you happy. Whether it’s climbing the corporate ladder, making just en
...ough to provide for you and your family, or being able to do something you find fulfilling, your goal needs to be defined. If changing jobs just isn’t an option, then maybe it’s a matter of enriching your life in other areas. Learn to do something new that challenges you, or make the commitment to meet that goal you’ve been meaning to but had to set aside for practical reasons.
Using your time towards something that makes you happy is just as practical as forcing yourself to go to a job you don’t like. To use another saying, life (and consequently time), is what you make of it and if you can make it worthwhile, you’ll never be disappointed. Take stock of what makes you happy, and take a step towards incorporating more of it in your life.
When you work from love, whether it’s personal or career-driven, you’ll find there aren’t enough days in the week to enjoy the job.
