Death penalty is a punishment where by criminals are executed by the state for a variety of crimes. In some countries it could be because of cases like rape, terror or murder. There are reasons as to why death penalty should be allowed and also why it should be abolished.
According to me death penalty should be abolished since it is unconstitutional and is a denial of human rights and by doing this people are denied their right to life. It is cruel, degrading and inhuman regardless of the crime, who is accused, guilt or innocence and the method of execution. I think that death penalty should be abolished and instead use a better way of punishing criminals like sentencing convicted criminals to life in prison.
Death penalty puts people’s lives at risk. Some people are held up
...to the last minute for execution and released a few minutes before execution hence this is a risk we should not take.
In some cases death penalty is determined by race and place of which is not fair at all. It may also be done to those who are poor, those who belong to a certain ethnic group and religious groups. Like for example those who kill the whites are more likely to be sentenced to death than those who kill African-Americans and this is discrimination.
Death penalty is in some cases done within skewed justice systems and this is after unfair trials and is often issued after confessions that in most cases have been obtained through torture. It is also believed that death penalty may do away with crime though there are no evidences that support this than imprisoning the
criminals.
Death penalty makes the family of the victims to undergo trauma and loss which could not be minimized by any one. This does not help the people end their pain or even heal and thus the process prolongs the agony of the family. Instead the funds used for costly executions should be used for counseling in order to help the families of the victims.
On the other hand, death penalty should be allowed if one puts it in this perspective where by a child is raped by an older person and one puts himself in to the shoes of the affected. Someone who took away some ones human rights and took an advantage of him or her. You would definitely want them to die because of ruining your life morally.
Also in some cases it should be allowed since it is an effective way to ban criminals so that they can be thinking twice before doing the crimes. When death penalties exist it is possible to reduce some of the crimes as people are aware of the outcomes and hence give up on committing any crime.
In some cases also it should be allowed as the bible clearly states that the government does not bear the sword in vain and it has the right to punish felons. This penalty also helps eliminate people who have really proved to be a burden into the society.
Death penalty should also be allowed as those who kill innocent people should also pay for it with their own lives and hence a punishment to them. It is a burden to the taxpayers to keep paying taxes for killers who spend the rest of
their lives not working.
