Box Office Reviews/Rating

It would be unfair to Bollywood if its popularity ratings were based on deductions from Box Office reviews and ratings.

Earnings from only one movie in Hollywood is enough to meet the budget of Bollywood even as there is no official document giving the total amount of Bollywood’s budget. However, the funding available for a movie production affects the quality and output of the movie and as such comparing Bollywood and Hollywood with Box Office as the parameter would seem unfair.

Geographical/Location based Test

With 1,210,000,000 (1. 1 billion) people, India is currently the world's second largest country, India crossed the one billion mark in the year 2000, one cannot undermine the fact that Bollywood, like India’s population is fast growing and becoming a threat to Hollywood’s supremacy, however the popularity of Bollywood movies can mainly be supported by India’s population and the fact that Bollywood movies are mostly watched by Indians or people with Indian origins all across the world.

Even though India has English as one of her official language, the reach of her movies cannot be compared to Hollywood movies which has English as the main language of communication. The followership that Hollywood stars enjoy world over is overwhelming, which also acts as a means of advertising for Hollywood, and if Bollywood basks in the glory of dubious “ShahRukh Khan has more fans than Tom Cruise” reports for long, it may not be a happy ending after all.
