Hi. I am Gold. I have been around since the beginning of time, but humans started to use me only 4000 years ago.
Now, don't think that you can throw me out into the garbage; there are millions of people who will come looking for me. Firstly, I am one of the most expensive and attractive metals on the earth. Secondly, my malleability and ductility has made me a favourite for jewellers throughout the centuries. Thirdly, I carry heat and electricity very well through my body making me a useful metal in electronics. Lastly, I am very stable and therefore do not get addicted to rust.
I am a relatively cool person but I tend to get angry relatively fast when compared to other member of my family. I start getting angry at 1064 C. But if I c
...annot still control myself until I get to 2861 C, which is when I start boiling I get very violent and . Some people think my family is too big. Well in a sense, I do have a big family. I am in a family more widely known as metals; more specifically transition metals.However, on the dark side, we don't usually interact with each other because we cannot produce much anything by working together.
Now, do not think that you can just beat me up. I am usually and weak when I am alone, but I feel a lot stronger by living with silver and copper, my friends down the street. I am a positive person and a respectful donator amongst us metals. I sometimes give my valance electrons to other non-metals. Depending how much stock the non-metal needs to
become full, I give away one of 79 electrons.About 1 out of 130 of my atoms are like my clones.
Those "fancy" scientists like to call them my isotopes. That is some weird language for "another form of an element. " I have 18 of them. The most abundant one is Gold 197. However, if I do get lost my parents come finding me in Australia, South Africa or the United states. There I am mostly found, sometimes mixed with other impurities in a compound with silver, nickel or iron.
But when I am treated I can be used to make coins to jewellery on your body. Like I said before, I am a fairly stable person. Swimming with I in cold water is not a problem because I do not get violent when I meet water. Even if I am exposed to the air or steam there is no effect on my body. I stay yellow just like how I was before.
Sometimes I even come in contact with criminals such as hydrochloric acid or dilute sulfuric acid but I have no problems because I do not react with them. How ever I do dissolve in a mixture of hydrochloric acid and concentrated nitric acid in a 3:1 ratio. Oh, one more thing about my self... I do not like visiting my friend oxygen a lot but however I do sometimes form oxides indirectly. Now a little bit of more about my family background. We have been known since prehistoric times when we were used as a coins exchanged for trading.
We are a fairly weak group of people with a solidity of only 2. 5 on moh's
scale. We are however tough when we are pulled because we are very ductile and can be stretched into wires so fine that even light can pass through it. My cousins who are married to silver, platinum and copper say that we have a high density of 19.
I have many special talents.... Hmmm, maybe that is why I have so many friends or considered the most desired metal. I am of critical importance to ladies.
They use me as jewellery to make them look attractive and rich. So, I am not really as bony as I look. Now that you know how attractive I am, some of you ladies might be saying to yourself, "Where can I find this amazing guy? " Well, you can always find me in mines deep under the earth's crust. Oh and before I forget for those of you who want to see me sometime, my skin tone is yellowish orange.
