Moby-Dick is a fiction novel about whaling occurring between the 1830s to early 1840s. Moby-dick is a white whale in the story that caused the destruction of a ship named Pequod and the death of several sailors. The focus of the paper will be on Ahab, Starbuck and Ishmael the only survivor of the ship.
Ahab is on a quest to revenge for his destroyed ship and injured his leg. He is the captain of the ship and displays overconfidence in his quest. He is obsessed with revenge that he believes it is possible to enact his will and not be affected by the forces of nature. He believes that it is his fate to destroy the evil of Moby-dick and can be considered as the hero of the story.
Starbuck is a religious man and the chief mate of the ship. He d
...epends on his faith in Christianity to interpret any event and make decisions on his actions. He is conservative and sober hence tries to oppose Ahab in his revenge quest. He is a family man and thoughtful and also does not make hasty decisions.
Ishmael is the narrator of the story and his prime intention of being a whaler is spiritual dissatisfaction. He is intelligent and educated since he displays knowledge on a wide range of subjects. He believes that men are lost to the world when they aboard a ship and it was his way of committing suicide. He is displayed as being good in everything but has no commitments.
Ahab is the captain of the ship and is obsessed with his quest to kill Moby-dick. As a result, the entire crew perishes apart from
Ishmael. Starbuck is chief mate and very religious. Ishmael is the only survivor of Pequod ship and the narrator of the novel.
