Engines are widely using in day to day living by billions of people. An engine is designed to convert energy into mechanical motion. There are different types of engines, but I'll be concentrating on heat engines, which burn fuels to create heat, which is then turned into motion. Heat engines include internal combustion engines (in cars, planes, bikes etc. ) and external combustion engines (in steam engines). Internal combustion engines burn fuel within the cylinder or vessel, whereas in an external combustion engine the fuel is burnt outside the engine to create steam, which creates motion inside the engine.

Internal combustion engines are more common because they are smaller and need less fuel to operate. Since the 17th century very basic engines were used but it wasn't until the sass's that the

first marketable engines were manufactured. Ever since Engines became available to the public, numbers have been rapidly increasing. Because of engines human life has become a lot easier. We can travel huge distances very quickly, which before engines, had to be done by foot or animals. One of the biggest uses of engines in the world are cars and motorbikes trains.

Because of engines we can travel further distances, collect more materials from all around the world and generally have a nicer life than what people 300 years ago had. An engine is related to motion because it is a machine that generates kinetic energy. A huge social advantage of this machine is that we can travel long distances across the world extremely fast. We can get across seas, huge areas of land and even through the sky because of engines. Because

we can travel across the world lots of different resources can be transported across the world helping people to have a icier, easier way of life.

Thing such as medicines are sent across the world to areas which might not have had them or had difficulties getting hold of such resources. A social disadvantage is that in places such as south East Asia motorbikes and cars are used by younger generations. Because they are inexperienced at driving they are more likely to crash making the streets dangerous for everyone. An economical advantage to engines is that they are costly so they do help to raise the economy. Every single country in the world uses engines so they are extremely crucial.

People pay very good money to have engines within their day-to-day lives. Plane companies charge valuable amounts of money, Just for you to travel around the world which wouldn't have been possible a few hundred years ago unless you were in a the higher class. This benefits both the plane companies but also the community. Engines also create a lot of Job opportunities, After all they do occasionally break down, and so people are needed to repair them, and also to make them. But, on the other hand engines do have economical disadvantages.

They are expensive so not all people can afford them. Maintaining them is also expensive and could cause people to go bankrupt in trying to maintain and power their engine. There are no environmental advantages of engines whereas the worst thing about engines is their impact on our environment. The huge disadvantage of engines is that they are causing a lot of

pollution in our world. Engines Emit 300 out of 700 million tons of carbon into our atmosphere yearly in the US alone and it is proven that engines are one of the main reasons to global warming.

Because of the rise in numbers of engines within the past 200 years since their discovery the numbers of arbor in our atmosphere is critically rising. The pollution which is being released into the environment from engines is extremely harmful to our bodies especially to the younger children and can cause things such as asthma and breathing problems for these children in the future, especially for children which living in heavily populated cities.

Also, huge amounts of oil have to be dug up yearly to power engines. Occasionally there are oil leaks within our environment, which can kill marine animals and birds. If the oil gets into our water system it can be extremely sinuous to any living organism. If we carry on to use engines in the way we do today we are at risk of running out of oil which can cause huge side effects to the way we live as most things rely on oil such as plastics.

Oil is extremely vital for us to survive, but we are using too much on engines. An alternative mechanism for engines would be batteries. Recently batteries have replaced engines in cars because they are said to be more environmentally friendly. Millions of lives have been saved with a small thanks to engines and the way of life has been improved vastly. I personally think engines are great machines and without them the chances of people like me

being able to travel across the world would be impossible.

But I think some things have to be changed, people use engines too much and it's causing too much pollution in our world. If the problem can be solved in a way that engines burn less fuel then that would be ideal, but it could take a few more years until such discoveries. People today use engines in day to day life and so we are all greatly thankful for this mechanism and we should be more grateful and e have to learn appreciate engines more because without them our world would look very different.
