Hillary Clinton’s Stellar Performance in US Presidential Debate
Hillary Clinton impressed during the first US presidential debate by displaying composure, delivering precise answers, and effectively defending her record. She skillfully governed the tone and pace of the debate, further establishing herself as a credible leader for the United States (NBC News). In addition to highlighting Trump's flaws in business and policies, she specifically criticized his tax cuts benefiting the wealthy. By expertly directing the discussion, Clinton strategically engaged Trump on her own terms while exposing his vulnerabilities.
Clinton adeptly responded to Trump's derogatory remarks about women, successfully appealing to his reputation and provoking a strong reaction from him. As the debate reached its end, Trump cast doubt on Clinton's leadership abilities, specifically questioning her "stamina." It was clear that Clinton was ready to deliver a definitive retort when Trump repeated the term "stamin
...a" for the third time. Without delay, she retaliated.
In reference to stamina, Clinton stated, "Well, as soon as he travels to 112 countries and negotiates a ceasefire, a peace deal, a release of dissidents... or even spends eleven hours testifying in front of a congressional committee, he can talk to me about that stamina" (NBC News). This powerful statement served as a compelling conclusion to her speech that evening. Clinton excelled in engaging in impromptu dialogue and answering questions, truly shining once the debate was well underway. She demonstrated impressive eloquence and the skill to succinctly expand on information while thinking on her feet.
Despite past difficulties, she accomplished a remarkable feat, which enhanced her credibility. However, her ethos diminished when she started providing answers that were clearly memorized. This happened at the beginning of the debate before she found her rhythm. Whe
someone sounds like they are reciting a text, the audience may perceive a lack of belief in their own ideas or insufficient knowledge on the subject. These instances greatly affected Clinton's performance.
During the debate, Clinton demonstrated exceptional performance and made a memorable statement: "I believe Donald just criticized me for preparing for this debate, and yes, I did. And you know what else I prepared for? I prepared to become president. And I think that's a positive thing" (NBC News). She skillfully transformed Trump's effort to undermine her into a chance to highlight herself.
Clinton's presentation on that day gave her campaign the much-needed boost of energy and potentially the type of "stamina" she required to maintain and possibly expand her lead in the polls, despite some shortcomings. Her exceptional ability to integrate information and provide detailed explanations propelled her back into the competition and resulted in her victory, even though she nearly faced disaster due to relying on memorized answers.
