I will be launching a Hair and Make-up shop named G.L.A.M (Gifts, Lotions And Make up) in my community.

To ensure the success of my business, I must complete a small-scale marketing campaign since there are already similar businesses in the area. My strategy involves conducting market research to evaluate the viability of my business and determine what customers desire from my shop. I will also need to consider different types of media for promotion. Furthermore, I must choose between establishing my business as a sole-trader or partnership, both having unlimited liability where owners bear responsibility for any debts if bankruptcy is declared and might even have to sell their personal assets to cover these debts.

When operating as a partnership, each partner assumes responsibility for the indebtedness of the other partners. Consequently, a legal agreement known as a D

eed of Partnership must be crafted by the partners. This document outlines details such as the allocation of profits and losses, individual partner duties and responsibilities, decision-making jurisdiction, and each partner's required capital investment. Both sole-traders and partnerships possess their own unique array of benefits and drawbacks. For instance, if I were to operate alone as a sole-trader, I would have complete control over my staff without interference, be empowered to implement all operational decisions on my own. However, if I opt for a partnership setup, my viewpoints may not align with my peers’, resulting in possible conflict over decision-making.

individual profit. On the other hand, being in a partnership provides the advantage of having someone work at the shop when I am unable to, such as during holidays or illness. As a sole-trader, however, the business would need to close during periods of absence.

Unincorporated business structures like sole-traders and partnerships are viewed as a single entity, leaving the owner liable for any debts or issues that may arise. Opting for a partnership, I can ensure the shop will always have someone to run it in case of my absence due to illness or personal reasons.

Having a business partner is advantageous as it ensures a continuous flow of ideas and prevents idea depletion. The organisation chart visually depicts the owners and employees of my business, which has a flat structure consisting of only two levels. The span of control, referring to the number of individuals one person can directly manage, is narrow in my business.

With two individuals directing two others, the team is limited in size. Specifically, Emma and myself will provide direction to Megan and Lucy, our part-time aids. Delegation, or the act of assigning tasks and duties to subordinates, will occur between Emma, myself, Megan, and Lucy. However, the ultimate responsibility falls on Emma and myself. Trust between all members is crucial for successful delegation.

My business operates with centralized decision-making, where Emma and I are the primary decision-makers. If Megan or Lucy have any ideas, they'll share them with either of us. As there are only four people, including me, we communicate through talking and don't need any other channels. The chain of command in my business is small, with

decisions made by Emma and me passed onto Megan and Lucy, the part-time workers. They'll share their ideas with us, if any.
