There is an ongoing discussion surrounding the classification of graffiti as either art or vandalism. Certain individuals perceive graffiti as a means to convey artistic creativity, while others consider it a destructive behavior.
In the past, graffiti was seen as a deviant behavior that defied societal norms. However, today it is recognized as "Street Art" and can be found in surprising locations and on different objects such as clothing, toys, billboards, and even the Wall Street Journal website. Graffiti serves as a means of artistic self-expression that should be recognized and admired. To gain a better understanding of artists' messages and their chosen forms of expression in this art form, it would be beneficial to establish more galleries specifically for graffiti artists to showcase their remarkable creations.
Graffiti is a significant aspect of art as it enhances the appearanc
...e of locations where it is found. It adds vibrancy and color to cities by adorning architecture, public transportation, and streets. Street art originated in New York and one depicted image shows a train from the 70s-80s era. While there were complaints about graffiti damaging public property, these amusing and vibrant trains brought immense enjoyment and delight to the city. Personally, I wish I could revisit that time and experience it myself.
Seeing a beautifully painted train can certainly uplift my mood and evoke positive emotions. This example shows how graffiti has the power to transform the appearance of objects and locations, making any place in the world an intriguing destination. Graffiti serves as a unifying art form, bringing together people from different nationalities, social classes, and political perspectives. According to Castliman's "Subway Graffiti in New York," this art for
attracts individuals from all walks of life, without categorization. People with diverse backgrounds come together to create communities and simply enjoy the practice of making art.
