According to the Dictionary. com, immigrant is an act of a person who coming to another country, usually for permanent residence. There are many reasons for a person to migrate to another country, including economic [pertaining to the production, distribution, and use of income, wealth, and commodities], political, family re-unification, natural disaster, poverty or the wish to change one's surroundings voluntarily. Illegal immigration is the migration of foreign citizens into a country without formal permission.
Illegal immigration has numerous and complex causes, usually person from poor countries seeking better life opportunities in more developed countries, simply they what to change they achieve status [social position a person takes on voluntarily that reflects personal ability and effort] that they cannot do in their countries. Most of illegal immigrant doesn’t hav
...e sufficient education background and poor, because the lacks in education they can only work as manual labor in their country and their get very little money from hard day work, and they have to worked very hard to gain something or sometimes gain nothing.
By migrating to more develop country they have a chance to improve their economic status [social position that a person holds]. In Malaysia generally there are two ways how a person’s become an illegal immigrant, first their entering this country with legal ways and with appropriate document, and their overstay and violate their visa. Secondly their entering Malaysia by crossing the border illegally, because Malaysia is surrounded by sea and this make border crossing become the first choice of illegal immigrant to come to Malaysia.
Illegal immigration has impact on political, economic, social [living or disposed t
live in companionship with others or in a community, rather than in isolation] and ethical issues. With Malaysian multi-racial society that promote multiculturalism [perspective that cultural diversity of a nation and promoting equal standing for all cultural traditions] that make it easier to Malaysian accept and adapt to the presence of immigrant.
According to structural-functional approach [a perspective which set out interpret society as a complex system with interrelated part that works together to promote stability] Malaysia economic and development success is generated by local Malaysian and also contribute by the immigrant, because of these we are moving forward from agrarian societies [society that depends on agriculture as its primary means for support and sustenance] to industrial societies [society driven by the use of technology to enable mass production, supporting a large population with a high capacity for division of labor].
Legal immigrant tent to find professional professions such as engineers, architect or programmer but illegal migrants are heavily concentrated in construction, agriculture and cleaning jobs. These jobs tend to be low skill or unskilled manual labor that just unpalatable to our local Malaysian. They are willing to work for lower wages than legal workers, this latently [unintended function] provides the industries with a cheap labor. For businesses, cheap labor can translate into better profits and this profit can be used to expand businesses, it would boost economic activity.
Despite the low wages, it still a better pay than what they got in their countries, manifestly [intended function] with this wages they are improving their living standard, because that why their come here in the first place. Most of illegal immigrants are
sending money to their family back homes, this can ease the burden and to liberate their families from poverty. We need them as much they need us. And because of an influx of these illegal immigrant it also dysfunction [unintended (manifest) or unrecognized (latent) and have a negative effect on society], cause these immigrant are also bring in economic, social and ethical issues.
Illegal immigrant is always associated with social problem. This was due to the behavior [manner of behaving or acting], values [defined standards that people use to decide ‘what is’ desirable, good and beautiful that serve as guidelines for social living], norm [an accepted behaviors within a particular group], culture [way of thinking, acting, and material object that together form a particular group ‘s way of life] and attitude that is counterculture [cultural patterns that strongly oppose those widely accepted within a society] from ours society [people who interact in a defined territory and share a culture].
Although the majority of illegal immigrant are from Muslim’s countries such as Indonesia, Bangladesh and Pakistan, but many social problems still exist. Illegal immigrants in Malaysia are usually from less developed countries, cultural lag [where some cultural elements change more quickly than others, thus disrupting a cultural system] and with third class mentality.
The norms that are always associates with illegal immigrant that they are pollutants, noisy, throwing waste as they please, and do not use public facilities properly. Our security is also threatened. Some of these illegal immigrants are criminals who are required by the authorities in their home country. They fled to Malaysia to escape the invasion of their home country
authorities. Unfortunately, they continue to commit crimes here.
Although illegal immigrant presences in Malaysia are against the law, the Malaysian government has not made enough effort to deport illegal migrants back to their countries. We need foreign labor in developing our countries. But their presences, especially illegal immigrants, also cause problems. The government should seriously address this problem so that our citizens not becoming a minority in their own country.
