Review on Physics of the Impossible by Michio Kaku Essay Example
The book I read recently is called "Physics of the Impossible" by Michio Kaku.
The writer appears to have a limited comprehension of the word "impossible." Instead, he has modified its definition to analyze and forecast potential progress in science and technology. This encompasses various areas like teleportation, time travel, robots, and spaceships.
Michio Kaku, a well-known theoretical physicist, is an expert in string theory - the pursuit of a unified theory that accounts for all known physical forces. Additionally, he has extensive knowledge in future science and has hosted various television shows on this topic. With his expertise, Kaku is adept at envisioning potential advancements in the realms of science and technology in the foreseeable future.
The author has divided his impossibilities into three classes using millenniums and aeons. This division is beneficial for those who are not familiar with the process
...of theorizing about the afterlife of natural philosophies.
Class I impossibilities, such as teleportation and telekinesis, are currently out of reach but do not violate the laws of physics. Kaku suggests that these may become achievable in the coming centuries. In contrast, Class II impossibilities like time machines and hyperspace travel challenge our scientific understanding and could take millions of years to accomplish. These are regarded as the most difficult challenges.
Remarkably, there are just a few technologies that belong to Class III impossibilities, which challenge our existing knowledge of the laws of physics. Kaku focuses on and explores two specific technologies in his discussion.
Ageless gesture machines and foreknowledge (seeing into the hereafter). This book examines the science behind the futuristic ideas that have been depicted in science fiction. Numerous references to Star Trek and Star War
can be found throughout this book.
One might wonder if physicists spend their time watching old sci-fi re-runs and trying to bring the technologies depicted in them to life. This view of our future evolution over the next millennium is both intriguing and frustrating. After reading Kaku's enthusiastic vision of the future, one cannot help but wish for a real-life time machine to travel forward and see just how accurate his predictions are.
I appreciated the way Kaku used recent scientific and technological advancements to illustrate his points. Overall, he was a concise and engaging writer, adept at explaining complex physics concepts in accessible terms, particularly when discussing his Class I impossibilities in the earlier chapters. However, as the book delves deeper into more challenging topics, he relies less on current research and development.
Moreover, this book enhanced my comprehension of purely theoretical natural philosophies. It greatly enhanced my lexicon and offered glimpses into forthcoming prospects. Consequently, I am enthusiastic about delving into additional works by this author soon.
